With the amount of evidence collected, Mary Surratt and Dr. Mudd are most definitely guilty.
Both associates of John Wilkes Booth and co-conspirators of the Murder of President Lincoln
assisted and protected John Wilkes Booth and his fellow murderers. Mudd and Mary had
previous connections with Booth, they covered and lied for Booth and helped out Booth in
specific, but vital ways for his plan. Mudd sheltered Booth and helped with his broken leg; Mary
Mudd was a close associate of Booth, both loyal confederates during the war. They knew each
other and had previously organized a plot to kidnap the president, they were friends, the book
tells us that “Booth needed horses for his plot to kidnap the president and Mudd was happy to
help”(pg 96 ch5) Showing that Mudd was willing to help Booth and showing their close
friendship. Mudd sheltered Booth (pg 99 chapter 5) “Mudd invited the pair in to rest.” Mudd
harbored assassins and lied to the police. Mudd was a close ally of Booth the book tells us that
Mudd (pg 98 ch5)“instantly knew when he locked eyes who the stranger was” he knew who John
Wilkes Booth was and he willingly helped him, further proving their close alliance and Mudds
devotion to Booth's cause. When getting questioned by detectives Mudd stuck his neck out for
Booth the book states that (pg 122)“Mudd stayed calm and did not reveal the secret known”,
Mudd lied repeatedly to detectives, on the page () it says that “Mudd attempted to set the
detectives on a wild goose chase” Mudd wanted to protect his and Booths Lives, he lied to
detectives to protect a killer, all this evidence further supports the fact that Dr. Mudd is guilty,
Dr. Mudd repeatedly withheld evidence from detectives and helped John Wilkes Booth
Mary Surratt was a close friend of John Wilkes Booth, her boarding house was a safe space for
confederates, Booth and his would-be assassin allies often met there and discussed their plans,
her boarding house is where the original plan to kidnap the president was hatched, Booth and
Mary were good friends (15)) the book tells us that “Booth was a frequent caller to Marys
washington townhouse” Booth visited her often, and he trusted her to deliver an important
package for him (page 22))” Mary delivered the message to the tavern keeper, that he should
keep the shooting irons ready”, Mary aided Booth despite knowing his plans and malicious
intent. Mary helped a criminal and killer, she lied repeatedly to protect Booth (page 113) “She
Reavled nothing to help the authorities find Booth” She withheld evidence from the authorities
she even lied to them repeatedly ( pg 134)) “Mary did not tell Colonel Wells about Booth visit to
her nor his instructions to her”.Mary Surrat repeatedly lied to authorities, withheld vital
information, was fully aware of potentially violent Confederate meetings occurring in her home,
and was fully ready to help Booth, making sure his guns or shooting irons were ready, Mary
Surratt reapetedly withheld information from authorites, and directly assisted Booth despite
With the evidence i have gathered you can clearly see Mary Surrat And Dr Mudd are both
guilty.Mary Surrat was executed but Dr Mudd was not.Due to the astonishing amount of
evidence i have collected, demonstrating how they both withheld information from the police,
lied to them multiple times and both assisted Booth in different but vital ways to his evil plan.
Mudd shoulve also been executed alongside Surrat, he helped Booth, sheltering him then lying to
the police, Mudd even admitted on his death bed (pg 198) he knew he had helped Booth that
night.Both Dr Mudd And Mary Surrat shoudve been executed alongside each other, both being
Guilty of a assisting what many people of the time, considered him a monster.
In conclusion, both Mary Surrat, and Dr Mudd are guilty, Both being close friends and allies of
John Wilkes Booth.They both withheld information, lied to the police over and over and assisted
