When is this equilibrium stable and when is it unstable ? 22. A rectangular coil of area 5 * 10 ^ - 4 m and 60 turns is pivoted about one of its vertical sides. The coil is in a radial horizontal field of 90 G ('radial' here means the field lines are in the plane of the coil for any orientation). What is the torsional constant of the hair-springs connected to the coil if a current of 0.20 m² produces an angular deflection of 18° ? 23. A rectangular coil having each turn of length 5 cm and breadth 2 cm is suspended freely in a radial magnetic field of induction 25 * 10 ^ - 2 * Wb * m ^ - 2 torsional constant of the suspension fibre is 1.5 * 10 ^ - 8 * Nm rad^ -1 The coil deflects through an angle of 0.2 radian when a current of 2 µA is passed through it. Find the number of turns of the coil. 24. . To increase the current sensitivity of a moving coil galvanometer by 50%, its resistance is increased so that the new resistance becomes twice its initial resistance. By what factor does its voltage sensitivity change? 25. The coil of a galvanometer is 0.02m * 0.08m It consists of 200 turns of fine wire and is in a magnetic field of 0.2 tesla. The restoring torque constant of the suspension fibre is 10 ^ - 6 Nm deg¹. Assuming the magnetic field to be radial, (a) what is the maximum current that can be measured y to by this galvanometer, if the scale can accommodate 30° deflection? (b) What is the smallest current that can be detected, if the minimum observable deflection is 0.1 degree?
