THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

The Opera House in Paris is a very famous and beautiful building. The Opera House has
a ghost, a phantom with yellow face, no nose, black holes for eyes and black clothes.
Chapter 1: The dancers
Annie saw the ghost in the passage. Another girl laughed because she didn´t believe in
the Opera ghost. Meg Giry said that her mother told her that people shouldn´t talk about
the ghost because he doesn´t like it. Meg´s mother (Madame Giry) is the doorkeeper of
the boxes in the Opera House and the ghost goes there in the opera nights. Madame
Giry can hear the ghost but she can´t see him.
The dancers talked about the Opera ghost all night. Then, Joseph was killed and
Madame Giry told everyone that the killera was the Opera ghost.
Chapter 2: The directors of the Opera House
It was the first week of work for two new directors (Monsieur Armand and Monsieur
Firmin). The men were talking about Joseph saying that it was an accident or a suicide.
They didn´t believe in ghosts.
There was a letter in their office. The letter said that the directors shouldn´t sell tickets
for box 5 and they should give 20,000 franks to the Opera Ghost. They thought it was a
joke.
That night, La Cariotta (a singer) got ill so Christine replaced her.
Chapter 3: Christine Daae
Christine sang beautifully and people were talking about her.
Raoul, a spectator, fell in love with Christine. They had met before. Raoul went to the
dressing room. Christine looked ill and she didn´t recognise him. The doctor sent
everyone away. But Raoul went back and heard a conversation between Christine and a
man. Raoul thought that the man was her lover, but there was nobody else in the
dressing room.
Chapter 4: The phantom is angry
A second letter arrived for the directors asking for box 5, the money and he asked
Christine to sing. The directors decided to talk to Madame Giry. She told them that the
Opera ghost was angry and that they should do what he says.
Chapter 5: A letter for Raoul
Raoul received a letter from Christine asking to meet her. Christine told Raoul that her
father had died and since that moment, she trained to be the best Opera singer. Raoul
asked her about the man´s voice in her dressing room but she said that she couldn´t tell
him. She was afraid of him but he was her music teacher.
Chapter 6: La Cariotta sings Margarita
La Cariotta received a letter saying that she shouldn´t sing at the Opera that night
because she would lose her voice. The director went to box 5. La Cariotta lost her voice
in the middle of her song.
The director heard a man´s voice telling them that the chandelier was going to break
because of La Cariotta´s voice. The chandelier broke and killed a woman. The Opera
was closed for two weeks and La Cariotta didn´t sing again.
Chapter 7: My angel of music
For a week, Raoul saw Christine every day. One day, Christine wasn´t anywhere.
Finally, Christine told Raoul that they couldn´t see each other again. She saw her music
angel (the Opera ghost). The ghost´s name was Erik and he was in love with Christine.
He showed her his face and it was very ugly. But she was going to marry him.
Raoul said that he was going to kill Erik. Christine was afraid and Raoul told her that
they should run away. They were going down the stairs and the Persian appeared and
told them to go to the other stairs. They went there and kissed.
Chapter 8: Where is Christine Daae?
The directors gave the Opera ghost what he asked for.
That night, Christine sang, but her face was pale. She looked afraid. Suddenly, the lights
went out and Christine dissapeared.
Chapter 9: The house on the lake
Raoul wanted to find Christine. The Persian took Raoul to Christine´s dressing room.
The Persian took the mirror and a black hole opened in it.
The Persian knew the Opera ghost very well. But, he opened the wrong door. It was the
ghost´s torture room. The ghost told Christine that she had to marry him so Raoul and
the Persian could live.
Christine kissed the ghost. He said that she was the first woman to kiss him. He said that
her mother gave him a mask because he was ugly. The ghost told Christine that she was
free now.
Chapter 10: Madame Giry visits the Persian
Madame Giry asked the Persian about Christine and Raoul. He said that the phantom
was dead. So, he told his story. They had met in Persia, Erik was a builder and they
were friends. He built the Opera House with secret passages. He was so clever but so
ugly that he lived in secret.

SUMMARY
The Opera Ghost is known in the Opera House in Paris. He doesn´t like it when people
talk about him and he has a box in the theatre just for him (box 5).
He manipulates people who are afraid of him to get what he wants. He asks the directors
for money and sends them letters. He also talks to the doorkeeper of box 5, Madame
Giry.
He is in love with Christine, a singer, so he made the other singer, La Cariotta, lose her
voice so Christine would sing in the Opera. But Christine is in love with Raoul.
One day, Christine plans to run away with Raoul, but the ghost kidnaps her. With the
Persian´s help, Raoul gets to the ghost´s house, but they enter the torture room.
To save them, Christine kisses the Opera phantom. He is so happy that a woman kissed
him that he lets everyone free. A few days later, he dies.
The Persian tells Madame Giry that the Opera phantom was a man, Erik. He was a
builder and his friend. He built the Opera House with secret passages, but he didn´t
appear in person because he was so ugly that he had to live in secret.

My favourite character is the phantom. Because he is angry and he is a builder.

My favourite part of the story is when the phantom asked the directors for
money and the box 5.
