ADJECTIVES and ADVERBS

I-ADJECTIVES
We use adjectives to describe people or things.
He is a young man. He is tall. It is an excellent car. It is expensive.

We use adjectives:
a) before nouns: a red car, a tall girl, and lazy boys.
b) after some verbs: be, get, feel, look.
I feel happy now. / she is getting angry / She looks tired. / The children are thirsty.

II- ADVERBS
We use adverbs after verbs. An adverb tells us something about a verb: She talks quickly.
a) We form adverbs by adding -ly to an adjective.
It is a slow train. The train goes slowly. /// It is heavy rain. It is raining heavily.

b) Some adjectives and adverbs are identical.


It was hard work, I worked hard.

c) The adverb which comes from the adjective good is well.


She is a good tennis player. She plays tennis well.

d) Some adjectives end in - ly: friendly, lively, lovely, lonely, silly.


If we want to use these words as adverbs we say in a friendly way / manner.
