Essay 2 :

Terrorism :

India is one of the most impacted country by terrorism.


Terrorism is described as the unlawful use of violence or threat of violence in
order to achieve a political, religious, ideological or social objective.

Types of terrorism :
●Civil disorder - violent protest by a group of individuals against a political
policy or action.
●Political terrorism - violent activities designed primarily to generate fear
in the community for political purposes.
●Religious terrorism - violence in the name of religion.
●Ethnic terrorism - violence between two or more ethnic groups.

Reasons for terrorism :


●At present, most of the terrorist attacks are due to religious motivations.
●Cultural differences.
●Independence or separatist movements.
Example, Khalistan Movement in Punjab, insurgent tribal groups in North East
India.
●Poverty and financial disparities.
●Injustice, dispute and enmity.
●Psychological factors such as hatred, prejudice, alienation, intolerance,
injustice, retaliation, trauma, etc.
●Adoption of a particular political philosophy such as socialism, anarchism, or
fascism.
●Environmental protection (ecoterrorism).
●Supremacism of a particular group.
●Spread or dominance of a particular religion.
●Financial reward.

Impacts of terrorism :
●Loss of life and property.
●Increased uncertainty in the markets.
●Creates panic among the people.
●Tourists won't visit. Tourism industry faces a blow.
●People leave the country to settle abroad for a safer environment.
●International investment and cooperation are lower in a country prone to
terrorism.
●Affects democracy, rule of law and enjoyment of human rights.

●Boko Haram
●Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)
●Lashkar-e-Taiba
●Jaish-e-Mohammed
●Hizb-ul-Mujahideen
●Communist Party of India (Maoist)
●United National Liberation Front of Western South East Asia (UNLFW)

Some key agencies to fight terrorism in India :


●Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS)
●Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). It is India’s foreign intelligence agency.
●National Investigation Agency (NIA)

Conclusion :

Terrorism is a real threat in today’s world. It affects the future of the entire
nation. Therefore the Government must take necessary actions to prevent the
terrorism so that no more lives are unnecessarily lost.
