1. A lawyer’s firm purchased a set of filling cabinets at a total list price of RM 1,650.
The furniture supplier sold the filing cabinets with trade discount of 5% and 20%.

a. What is the net price of the filing cabinets?

2. A dining set comprises a table with a list price of RM 840 and 6 chairs with the
list price of RM 170. Calculate the net price of the dining set if the trade discount
is 15%

4. After chain discount of 12% and 5%, the net price of a set of alloy rims is RM
2,048.20. What is the list price of the alloy rims?

5. A shoe manufacturer sells a type of women’s shoes with a list price of RM 340
at a 10% trade discount. However, the owner discovers another manufacturer
selling the same type of shoes at RM 280. What further discount must the owner
offer for the price of the shoes to match the price of its competitors?

6. An electrical shop sells a TV set with a list price of RM800 at a 10% trade
discount. What further discount must be granted to match a competitor’s price of
RM 648?

7. A manager wishes to buy a TV set to be placed at the waiting room of his office.
The list price of the set is RM 2,100 with the trade discount of 5% and 10%. He
wrote a cheque for the purchase under the mistaken belief that the series
discount is equivalent to 15% discount. How much of an error did he make?

8. A department store purchased a number of dresses with a total list price of RM


8,400, with series discount of 12% and 10%. Calculate the total net price of the
dresses.

9. Sam’s Department stores sells a shirt with discounts of 12% and 20%, while
Anand’s Department Store sells the same shirt with discount of 10%, 10% and
12%.
a. Which stores offers a higher discount?
b. Calculate the difference between the discounts offered by both stores.

how much he need to pay?

12. An engineering firm buys a plotter machine for RM 4,600 at a trade discount of
10%. The invoice dated April 25 for the sale has terms 5/7, net 14. How much
should be paid on May 3 to settle the invoice?

13. The owner of a shoe stores receives a delivery of shoe valued at RM 6,300 on
March 18. The invoice accompanying the delivery has term 15/5, 8/30, n/45. How
much should the owner pay to settle the invoice if he pays on
a. April 1?
b. April 30?

14. A furniture retailer receives an invoice for a shipment dated October 15. The
invoice has a value of RM 18,300. The trade discount given 10%, while the terms
of the invoice are 5/20, 2/30, net 45.
a. What is the net price of the shipment?
b. If the invoice is paid on November 10, how much should be paid?
