1. Safety

Safety All the persons involved in must know and follow all the company and local safety regulations,
Requirements with special attention to the following:
• Make sure that there is enough light to work safely.
• Immediately replace damaged or lost safety equipment.
• Keep all tools in good condition.
• Follow instructions while using tools.
• If there is a danger of failing, a safety harness and a safety rope are used.
• Use and check fall prevention equipment.
• Make sure lanyards are attached whilst in the lift shaft when working in hazardous
location.
• Establish protective barriers around the work area.
• Ensure the unit is under full technician’s control, isolated and locked out of group
service.
• Every worker is responsible for his or her own safety and health.
• Only certified and trained workers are allowed to retrofit the elevator.
In addition to protective clothing, the following safety equipment must be used:

1|Page
Access and exit 2.1 Access to the pit
to pit 1. Check that the car is empty. Then send the car one or more floors up.
2. Before the car reaches the destination floor, open the landing door by approximately 15 cm
(6 in) with the unlocking key. The elevator must stop. Memorize elevator’s position.
3. Ensure there is sufficient light (permanent or portable).
4. Using door stoppers to keep the door open, activate the pit stop switch (JHSG) and check
the safety space.
5. Remove the door stoppers, close the landing door and register a landing call.
6. Wait a moment (sufficient ime to allow the elevator to move again if the JHSG stop switch
failed).
7. Open the door. Check that the elevator has not moved.
If the pit depth is more than 2 meters, use personal fall protection and attach the lanyard to
the designated anchor point.
8. Enter the pit, using the fixed or portable pit ladder. Use door stoppers to ensure the doors
are kept slightly open (less than 15 cm/6 in) when working in the pit.
9. Carry out the scheduled work.
2.2 Exit from the pit
1. Attach the lanyard to the harness (if applicable) and climb up the pit ladder.
2. Open the landing door and use a door stopper to keep it open.
3. Exit the pit.
4. Remove the ladder (if applicable).
5. Detach the fall protection lanyard (if applicable).
6. From the landing, reset the stop switch in the hoistway (JHSG).
7. If applicable, switch off the hoistway light. Remove the door stopper.
8. Close the landing door and check that it is mechanically locked.
9. Register a landing call and check that the elevator is operating normally.
10. Remove the specified signs and barricades.

Symbols Used DANGER

in this Manual The safety warning with the signal word “Danger” is used to indicate a hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

3. Work instruction

3.1 Preparation
The following steps have to be done to be ready for the retrofit:

Procedure Step# Description

1 Basically, one person is sufficient to conduct the retrofit. If local codes require 2 people – 2
people have to be present during the retrofit.
2 Put “Out of Service” signs in front of the landing doors, in compliance with the country safety
practices.
3 Establish protective barriers around the work area.
General
preparation 4 Make sure that the elevator is not occupied by persons or goods and is removed from
service prior to commencement of work.
5 If personal need to access to and exit from hoistway please follow Instructions for access
and exit to pit (top of car).
6 Switch off elevator main power.
Special
preparation
7 Take all required tools to working area

3.3 Retrofit cases and current position of LMS

Currently, the Digisens KL-66 sensor (5V or 24V) is located inside the beam of the lower yoke.

A retrofit has to be conducted in the following case:

For SL 33 Rel. 1 and Rel. 2 with TK between 1000mm and 1500mm.

3.2 Disassemble

The disassembly of the old LMS module has to be done on both TK beams of the lower yoke of the SL 33
(left and right side)

Tools
Step# Description & Photo

3.4 Final Check
Need to do following to return elevator to service.

Procedure Step# Description

1 Re-commission CLC
Test the LMS with different loads in car and Perform several trips with rated speed (or
2 inspection speed firstly if any potential risk about material damage caused by retrofit) to
check the ride quality, noise and vibrations and so on.
General final 3 Remove the “Out of Service” signs from the landing doors.
check 4 Check that sensor and brackets are free from touching parts (e.g. wires…)
5 Set the elevator into normal operation status.
