MTech Thesis Evaluation
1. The evaluation of a theory course will be done in accordance with the following components:
Component Weightage Duration
Internal Continuous Assessment 20% Throughout the semester
Mid-Semester Examination* 30% 2 Hrs written test
End-Semester Examination* 50% 3 Hrs written test
3. The details about the criteria for the distribution of marks at each stage of evaluation is tabulated
below:
STAGE-1: Internal Evaluation at the beginning of the third semester i.e. first week of August
For 3rd-Semester M. Tech.
students Students have to submit a report on the literature review along with the 60% Evaluation

STAGE-2 Internal Evaluation at the end of the third semester
For 3rd-Semester M. Tech. First Progress Report (APA style format), 40% Evaluation
students Looking for possible topics with the help of supervisor(s). Mainly focused Committee
(Total Marks: 60) on literature review and Mainly focused on Methodology of the work.
(Identification and Formulation of a problem for dissertation work: The
student should be able to demonstrate the motivation for work, its 20% Thesis
feasibility, and novelty along with a good amount of literature review and Supervisor(s)
methodology )
(Abstract, literature review, Objectives of the work, Methodology, etc)
First Progress Presentation in front of committee and supervisor 40%
STAGE-3: Internal Evaluation in the Mid of March
For 4th-semester M. Tech.
Second Progress Report (APA style format) based on First Presentation, 40% Evaluation

Note: At this stage, students who do not show quality and quantity of
M. Tech. research project work will be warned for an extended period.

4. For Internship/training, evaluation will be based on the assessment by the respective Industry (Profroma-
1), report submitted by the student, and presentation and viva-voce examination by the assessment
committee formulated by the Head of the Department.
5. A student must secure minimum 30% in End-Semester Examination and 40% cumulatively to clear
any course.
6. The Departments can evolve their own rubrics for the Mid-semester and End-semester evaluation of
Project work. The marks may be distributed among various components like selection of topic, problem
statement, literature review, methodology, oral and written presentation of the work done and performance
in viva-voce examination.
7. In case of the internal continuous assessment component, the course coordinators will have freedom to
devise appropriate assessment or evaluation methods of their respective courses. The course coordinators
may use the mix of quizzes, mini-projects, term paper, open-book tests, case studies or assignments or any
other challenging and innovative exercise that they deem fit and relevant for the respective course.
However, the assessment model of the course shall be approved by the DPGC of the department and shall
be communicated to the students before the commencement of the course.
8. Mid-semester and End-semester examinations will be coordinated by the Academic section for all the
courses of different postgraduate programmes. The dates for both examinations will be notified in the
Institute Academic Calendar.
9. The different components of assessment need to be mapped with Course Outcomes (COs) of respective
courses.
