Read the specific criteria for each award as described in this booklet, being sure you meet all of the criteria for the
award(s) you wish to be considered for.

Note: Under the Income Tax Act, the Ministry of Education must issue scholarship winners a T4A for the taxation year in
which the scholarship cheque is issued. When redeeming a scholarship, winners will need to provide a Social Insurance
Number (SIN) for this purpose. Temporary SINs, beginning with ‘9’, cannot be accepted.

To qualify for the SD No.73 Ministry of Education District/Authority Scholarship, applicants must meet the following basic
eligibility criteria:

1. Graduate from a School District No.73 Secondary School

2. Meet the basic eligibility requirements set by the B.C. Ministry of Education

3. Demonstrate outstanding achievement in any of the focus areas.

4. Submit a personal letter of application addressing:

a. Future goals and objectives

b. Statement that describes your achievements in the focus area(s) you are applying for.

5. ONE Teacher/Community Statement of Recommendation (see District Authority Award Form - Statement of
Recommendation - FILLABLE.pdf page 9).

About the Scholarship
District/Authority Scholarships recognize graduating B.C. students for excellence in their chosen area of interest or
strength.

Selected recipients will receive $1,250 upon verification - by the B.C. Ministry of Education - that they meet eligibility cri-
teria, are registered with an approved post-secondary education or training provider and are actively attending a program
that leads to a recognized credential.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to win the District/Authority scholarship, applicants must:

Meet basic eligibility requirements set by the B.C. Ministry of Education:

□ Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant) at the time of registration in the school year for
which the scholarship is awarded

□ Be a B.C. resident

□ Be or have been in the school year for which the scholarship is awarded:

■ Enrolled in a British Columbia public school (including Distributed Learning schools), or

■ Enrolled in a Group 1, 2, or 4 British Columbia Independent School, or

■ Enrolled in a Continuing Education Centre, or

■ Registered with a public, independent, francophone or distributed learning school in B.C. as a


homeschooled child

Demonstrate outstanding achievement in any of the following focus areas:

□ Indigenous Languages and Culture, demonstrated at school or in the community

□ Fine Arts (e.g., Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music)

□ Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (e.g., Business Ed, Technology Ed, Home Economics, Information
Communication Technology)

□ Physical Activity (e.g., Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, not limited to Physical Education)

□ International Languages from the International Languages curriculum or External Assessments, including AP and IB
courses

□ Community Service (Volunteer Activity), which includes awareness of local, global, and cultural issues

□ Technical and Trades Training (e.g., Carpentry, Automotive, Mechanics, Cook Training)
