Objectives of the lab:
Main objectives of the lab include.
➢ Introduction of Control Systems.
➢ Introduction of equipment’s related to Control Systems.
➢ Explanation of lab safety rules and precautions.
Equipment Discussed:
Following equipments were discussed in the lab.
Flow Control Trainer:
This equipment is used to facilitate the optimization of control
parameters to achieve desired flow rates, ensuring efficient and safe
operation of fluid systems.
Pressure Control Trainer:
Pressure control trainer is designed for understanding the basic
principles of pressure control. The process set up consists of pressure
vessel fitted with pneumatic control valve. Pressure transmitter is used
for pressure sensing.
Liquid Level Control Trainer:
Liquid Level Controllers are devices used in upstream and midstream
applications to monitor the level of liquid and ensure that the liquid is
maintained at the set level.
Temperature Control Trainer:
Temperature control is a set of procedures, strategies, measurements,
and conditions established to meet and maintain the standards and
specifications of a given product and/or process regarding temperature.
AC Servo Control Motor:
An AC Servo Control Motor, also known as an AC Servo Motor, is an
electric motor designed for precise control of angular or linear position,
velocity, and acceleration in various industrial and automation
applications.
DC Servo Motor Control:
A DC Servo Control Motor, also known as a DC Servo Motor, is an
electric motor that is used for precise control of angular or linear
position, velocity, and acceleration. Unlike standard DC motors, which
typically run at a constant speed when connected to a DC power supply,
DC servo motors are equipped with additional components for closed-
loop control, allowing for accurate and controlled motion.
Control Systems:
A control system is a set of interconnected components or devices that
manipulate the behavior of a system to achieve a desired output or
maintain a specific performance level. A control system makes
decisions about how a discrete, continuous or hybrid processes
function, generally ensuring processes operate within appropriate
parameters, safely, at an appropriate rate and within required quality.
Types of Control Sytems:
There are different types of control systems.
➢ Open-Loop Control: The controller sends commands to the
actuator without feedback from the system's output. It does not
continuously adjust to changing conditions.
➢ Closed-Loop (Feedback) Control: The controller receives
feedback from the system's output and adjusts the control action
to maintain desired performance.
➢ Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) Control: A common
feedback control technique that uses proportional, integral, and
derivative components to adjust the control action.
Sensors:
A device that measures relevant variables or the output of the plant.
Sensors provide feedback on the system's current state to the controller.
Transducers:
A transducer is a device or component that converts one form of energy
or physical quantity into another. Transducers are commonly used in
various applications to measure, sense, or manipulate different types of
signals or physical phenomena.
Actuators:
A component that executes the control action determined by the
controller. It adjusts the inputs to the plant to influence its behavior
based on the controller's instructions.
Lab Safety Precautions:
➢ Follow electrical safety guidelines and avoid working with
live circuits.
➢ Adhere to all lab rules, guidelines, and standard operating
procedures (SOPs) provided by the lab supervisor or
instructor.
➢ Do not make loose connections.
➢ Ensure proper connections of the set points.
➢ Always ensure that you turn off the equipment, before
removing or adding any connections.
➢ Keep water and liquids away from electrical equipment to
prevent water hazard. Adhere to electrical safety guidelines to
minimize the risk of electrical shocks or other electrical
hazards.
➢ Inspect equipment before use, and promptly report any faults
or issues.
➢ Handle all lab tools and equipment with care to avoid
accidents and maintain a safe environment.
