Guide to upgrade from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9
A. Upgrade from RHEL 7 to RHEL 8
1. Check pre-requisites (system is subscribed, appropriate repositories enabled) 2. Update all packages to the latest RHEL 7 version. 3. Install the leapp utility. 4. Perform the pre-upgrade phase. 5. Start the upgrade process. 6. Verifying the post-upgrade state of the RHEL 8 system. 7. Performing post-upgrade tasks (Remove any remaining Leapp packages, remove remaining rhel 7 packages, disable yum repositories whose packages cannot be installed on rhel 8 (Docker)).
B. Upgrade from RHEL 8 to RHEL 9
1. Check pre-requisites (system is subscribed, appropriate repositories enabled) 2. Update all packages to the latest RHEL 8 version. 3. Install the Leapp utility. 4. Verify that the correct RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 repositories have been added to the correct Content View on Satellite Server. 5. Verify that the correct RHEL 9 repositories are enabled in the activation key associated with the Content View. 6. Perform the pre-upgrade phase. 7. Performing the upgrade. 8. Verify that the current OS version is RHEL 9. 9. Performing post-upgrade tasks (Remove any remaining Leapp packages, remove remaining rhel 7 packages).
