Adding Animations in PowerPoint
Adding Animations in PowerPoint
1. Open PowerPoint
In the "Animations" tab, you’ll see several animation options. PowerPoint provides
three main types of animations:
o Entrance: Animations that make the object appear (e.g., Fade, Fly In).
o Emphasis: Animations that emphasize or highlight an object (e.g., Pulse,
Spin).
o Exit: Animations that make the object disappear (e.g., Fade Out, Fly Out).
Click on the animation style you like to apply to the object.
Tip: Hover over any animation to get a preview of how it will look.
Start Options:
o On Click: The animation starts when you click the mouse.
o With Previous: The animation starts automatically with the previous
animation or slide transition.
o After Previous: The animation starts automatically after the previous
animation finishes.
Duration: Controls how fast or slow the animation is. Adjust the Duration slider to
change the speed.
Delay: This allows you to delay the start of the animation for a specific period of
time.
To see how the animation looks, click on the "Preview" button in the Animations
tab.
You can also use the Play From option to preview the animation from a specific
slide.
If you want to add more than one animation to a single object (e.g., make it fade in
and then spin), select the object, and in the Animations tab, click on the "Add
Animation" button. This will allow you to layer multiple animations.
Use the Animation Pane (explained below) to adjust the order and timing of these
animations.
In the Animation Pane, right-click on any animation and select "Timing" to open
more detailed settings, such as:
o Start (On Click, With Previous, After Previous).
o Duration (how long the animation lasts).
o Delay (how long before the animation starts).
If you want to create more complex animations, such as moving an object along a
custom path (e.g., a circle or zig-zag), you can use motion paths.
Select the object, then in the "Animations" tab, choose "Add Animation" > "More
Motion Paths". Choose a path, and then adjust it as necessary.
Once you’re satisfied with your animations, save your PowerPoint presentation by
clicking "File" > "Save".
Use Animations Sparingly: Too many animations can be distracting. Stick to a few
key animations to keep your audience’s attention.
Keep Consistency: Use the same animation style for similar objects (e.g., all titles
with "Fade In").
Preview Regularly: Always preview your slide to ensure animations are working
smoothly.
Don't Overcomplicate: Simple animations like Fade, Appear, or Wipe are often the
most effective.
1. Entrance Animations: Make objects appear on the slide (e.g., Fade, Fly In).
2. Emphasis Animations: Highlight objects after they have appeared (e.g., Pulse, Spin).
3. Exit Animations: Make objects disappear (e.g., Fade Out, Fly Out).
4. Motion Paths: Create custom paths for objects to follow (e.g., Bounce, Zigzag).
