Storm of Chaos Handout
Storm of Chaos Handout
All of you grew up listening to stories of the Great War Against Chaos. The tale of
Magnus the Pious and his victory over the armies of Chaos is well known. While ther
have been wars and threats in the 200 years since, there has been nothing on that scale.
Until now. This year the Chaos Lord Archaon invaded the Empire with five mighty
armies. They swept down from the Chaos Wastes, ranks filled with mutant warriors,
nightmarish monsters, and power-mad sorcerers. Flagellants and other prophets of doom
declared these the End Times. And as these armies pillaged and burned their way through
eh northern provinces of the empire, it was easy to believe.
You've heard endless stories over the past few months. They say that Sigmar once again
walked the earth. They say that an army of wolves attacked the Kislevian city of Erengrad.
They say the dead rose from their graves to defend the Empire. They say a mighty victory
was won at Middenheim but that it's underbelly rots with a Skaven infestation They say a
plague has choked the streets of Talabheim with bloated corpses.
You can only believe what is in front of your eyes. You were in the ruins of the town of
Untergard in the Drakwald. A nine-day battle took place there, as Beastmen tried to force
their way across the town's great bridge. They were rebuffed the first time, but the price
was high. After the Imperial army fled and a second, large contingent of Beastmen came
to reclaim the waste they had left behind and that's when you fled with most of the
townsfolk to the City of the White Wolf, Middenheim. Granny Moescher, a respected
elder of the town was killed along the way while attempting to exact revenge on the loss of
her family. As it turns out, she messed with some raw chaos and a warpstone was created
upon her destruction. That's the reason that the Ordo Fidelis, or witch hunters, try to
keep people from doing disorganized magic. No word has made it's way to you about any
persons that remained behind in the Drakwald, but the presence of that warpstone is
certainly not going to be a good thing.
Since arriving in Middenheim, you have been recruited to solve the murder of a priest of
Sigmar. A trail from the sewers back to the Drakwald revealed very little..until Blind
Odo, the priest, saw a vision of the Demon in the Skull. Its presence under the Herdstone
of the Beastmen may lead to further clues and the ability to stop the spread of chaos in the
Drakwald.
You are currently in the caves under the Herdstone seeking the Demon in the Skull, a
magical amulet that can open gates to the chaos aether...
