(a) 4 (b) (c) 2 (d) 4

2. A card is drawn at random from a well shuffled pack of 52 playing cards.
The probability of getting neither a red card nor a queen is

(a) (b) (c) (d)
13 13 13 13

Answer the following:

6. The probability of getting a defective pen in a lot of 800 pens is 0.125. Find the
number of good pens.
7. Three different coins are tossed together. Find the probability of getting
(i) exactly 2 heads. (ii) at least two tails (iii) at most 2 heads.
8. In a single throw of a pair of different dice, what is the probability of getting
(i) a total of 6 or 7 of the numbers on both dice
(ii) product of numbers on both the dice is greater than 15
(iii) a doublet of even numbers.
9. From a pack of 52 playing cards, jacks, Queens and Kings of red colours are removed.
From the remaining, a card is drawn at random. Find the probability that the card
drawn is
(i) a black King
(ii) a card of red colour
(iii) either a spade or a Queen,
10. Cards marked with numbers 1, 3, 5, …., 101 are placed in a bag and mixed
thoroughly. A card is drawn at random from the bag. Find the probability that the
number on the drawn card is (i) a perfect square
(ii) a prime number less than 20
(iii) a number divisible by 3 and 5.
11. A bag contains, white, black and red balls only. A ball is drawn at random from the
3 2
bag. If the probability of getting a white ball is 10 and that of a black ball is 5, then
find the probability of getting a red ball. If the bag contains 20black balls, then find
the total number of balls.

12. Case Study:

“Eight Ball’’ is a game played on a pool table with 15 balls numbered 1 to 15

and a “cue ball” that is solid and white. Of the 15 numbered balls, eight are solid
(non-white) coloured and numbered 1 to 8 and seven are striped balls numbered
9 to 15.

The 15 numbered pool balls (no cue ball) are placed in a large bowl and mixed,
then one ball is drawn out at random.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) What is the probability that the ball drawn bears number 8?
(ii) What is the probability that the ball drawn bears an even number?
(iii) What is the probability that the drawn ball bears a number, which is a multiple
of 3?
(iv) What is the probability that the drawn ball is a solid coloured and bears an
even number?
