Deena’s Country Hearth
Directions for: 22” Love Me Tender

Directions for applying elastic…

Fold and press under 1’’ …Method 1…Lay elastic close to raw edge on
both layers after you fold it back…back stitch on beginning of
elastic…holding onto fabric behind presser foot, pull the elastic and zig
zag over the elastic to end of fabric(zig zagging over elastic is making a
casing) …Pull elastic to desired length… Back stitch across end.
Method 2…Do the same as method 1 except do not fold fabric above
where you are applying the elastic….This is used when edges are left
torn.
Cut out arms, head, legs and body piece (body piece can be made out of
muslin or any fabric)….Tear piece for apron and apron
border….Measurement for apron and border are on back of cover.

Body…. Leaving top open, sew around body piece…At corners, place
seams together like in photo and wrap and tie a piece of crochet thread
or small jute around corners (1” in)…Turn…Add either 4 cups plastic

1
2
pellets, rice or clean sand and then stuff medium soft…Hand gather top
closed…(photos below)

Legs with Boots….Leaving top of leg piece open sew around both leg
pieces, twice…turn and stuff foot and leg firmly, up to about 5” from top
of leg…Match the seams together and hot glue or hand stitch opening
closed…Paint the boots with one coat of any color you want…Hang to
dry….Lightly sand when dry.

Socks….Cut the two pieces for the socks with the stretch of the
fabric going with the 5” cut…Take one long 5” edge of each sock piece
and stretch the fabric a little as you sew the lace on…photo below…(I do
not finish the edge of the fabric knit.)…With wrong sides together and
2
3
matching the lace at top, sew a seam…Trim seam close…Turn the
sock…Fold at seam and sew close to seam all the way down again… This
will hide the raw edges of the seam.

Turn and fold top down….Pull each sock over the top of the leg and
position over boot like in photo….Turn bottom of sock under and tack
down ruffle where needed…Hot glue or hand stitch the top of legs to
the body, at the seam…(This is on the bottom of body)

Head…Sew around head piece leaving the top open…Stuff

firmly…Hand stitch top closed…Position the head over the gathered
spot on the body and hot glue down at the bottom and back of head.
Arms…Sew around each arm piece leaving top open…Stuff
firmly…Close ends with either hot glue or hand stitch closed…Position
arms just below head and on back of body and hot glue on as shown in
photo’s below.

Jumpsuit…With RST Sew both shoulder seams of jumpsuit

pieces…Turn back the bottom of each sleeve piece 1”and apply elastic
using method 1…Sew both side seams of jumpsuit…Fold back and press
the bottoms of the leg pieces 1” and apply elastic using Method 1…Sew
Crotch seam and turn…Hand gather the neck of the jumpsuit (leave long
ends to tie) and put on doll…pull the gathers tight and knot off….Add a
small amount of stuffing to each sleeve.

Apron…Tear your apron piece and the border piece (measurement on

back of cover)…With wrong sides together sew your border piece to one
long edge of the apron piece…Press seam open…Apply elastic on other
long edge and pull elastic until piece is about 10...Sew the back seam of
apron with RST…(All edges on apron are left with torn edges.)..Pull
apron on doll with seam in back.

4
5
Hair….Wrap 10 times around a piece of cardboard 4”x 9” long …( you
want the loops 9”) Pull off cardboard and tie in the middle…Glue to top
of head and in the middle…For bangs wrap the yarn around 4 fingers 6
times…Pull off fingers and tie in middle….clip ends and glue this clump
at the top.

Pigtails and bows…With the same yarn tie the hair into pigtails…With
the strip of fabric that matches apron tie around each pigtail and cut
off each end to about 1 ½”…Take the other strip and tie a knot 1
1/2”from end… cut the other end the same…Glue this on top of the two
ends already on the pigtail.

5
6

Face….. Make a round nose out of Sculpey…Press it slightly until

slightly flattened….Break the end of a toothpick off and stick the broke
end into the back of nose….Bake as directed on pkg.

Make a mark on face where you want the nose…Apply some E6000 glue
to the end of the toothpick and a little on the nose and stick into
face…(don’t use too much!)…Press ever few minutes until set… It’s best
to lay flat so nose stays put until it dries). Blush cheeks and nose… Mark
where you want your eyes if you need to and apply the paint…Apply 1
tiny dot of white on each cheek and end of nose and in each corner of
eyes when dry… (I like to use a toothpick for this) With a fine felt pen (I
use a pigma), apply freckles, eyelashes, and eyebrows… Add a small pink
dot with tail for mouth….(see drawing on pattern)

Heart and patches….Cut a slit in one side of heart piece…With Rst

sew around the whole heart …Clip where needed and turn through slit in
back of heart….Stuff and whip stitch the slit closed…With crochet
thread and needle, whip stitch around the outside edge with random
stitches…The messier the better!.…I tied a jute bow and glued it on

6
7
front of heart….For patches tear a couple squares out of any prints and
hand stitch on the front of apron…Add a couple of buttons.

Knee’s….I use a long doll needle to do this, but you can use just a
regular needle with the crochet thread…Mark with a pen with
disappearing ink about 7” from bottom of foot or just below your
stuffing line…With a long single thread of crochet thread tie a knot 3”
from end…Insert needle in back of leg ¼” from seam and pull through to
front the same distance from the seam…Stick needle back in just above
where you came out and go then across to other side.(same distance)

Insert needle just above where you came out this time and go back to
other side again…Pull as you go to indent…repeat this again and return
needle to back of leg…Cut end and tie the two strings together and knot
off…Put blush on both knees and fronts of hands.

Wings….If you want wings cut two layers and sew around both ¼” from
edge…Make clips towards seam all the way around….Set these aside.

Bunny….It is best to trace bunny pattern on a light weight poster

board…Trace around bunny on two layers of Osnaburg with a pen that
has disappearing ink…Sew on this line all the way around this bunny
Piece…Cut out bunny leaving a ¼” edge all the way around…Make’s clips
all the way around the bunny like you did with the wings…Take the wings
and the bunny and add to your light load of clothes…Washing and drying
these will fray and fluff up the edges….Add 3 parts white glue to 1 part
water and put the wings into this solution…Wring out and lay to dry..You
can bake them at 175 degrees on a cookie sheet in your oven to speed this
up, but watch closely!...I use a toaster oven!!!!...I’m always in a
hurry!...Now let’s finish the bunny!

7
8

Make a slit down the back of the bunny without cutting into the front
piece…Sew the rounded seam at the bottom of each ear…Stuff the
arms, legs and body pretty firm….Whip stitch the slit closed….Wrap jute
around neck and tie with a bow…Wrap jute around where arms and legs

Join the body and knot off in back…Put a little got glue at the top of
legs and pull legs up a little so they do not hang straight down….

Blush the checks, inside of ears, fronts of hands and tips of toes…Add a
tiny heart shaped pink nose and little black eyes…Highlight cheeks and
eyes with itsy bitsy white dots….add eyelashes, eyebrows, freckles and a
line from the nose to almost to bottom of face…Add a little pink
mouth…Thread your long needle with a wide piece of Raffia and pull
through from one side of his face to the other…Split raffia with tip of
needle for small whiskers.

Position bunny the way you like on the doll and add some hot glue to
back and press on until set…Position the heart over the bunny the way
you like it and tack also with the hot glue.

8
9

Lace collar….with off white cotton yarn and a G hook chain 25… leave
a tail about 3” long…dc in second chain from hook…* ch3 and then
skipping one chain, dc in next chain space…Repeat from * across to
end…Turn and ch 3…In first chain 3 space do 1 dc, ch 3, 2dc in same
space…*slip stitch in next dc…in next chain 3 space do, 2 dc, ch 3,
2dc…Repeat from * across to end…dc in last space...Place around neck
and either tie in a bow or tie in knot and cut off.

Hope you enjoyed making this doll!

Thank you for purchasing my pattern!......Deena
