a processor:

The higher the number, the more powerful the processor,

INTEL: i9 > i7 > i5 > i3, similarly
AMD: Ryzen 9 > Ryzen 7 > Ryzen 5 > Ryzen 3

Since we are looking specifically for Video editing, please avoid i3 and Ryzen 3
processors, you need to atleast have an i5 processor or a Ryzen 5 processor
• GENERATION:

Similar to tiers,
Higher the generation number, greater the performance of the processor, as the
newer generation will be equipped with the latest technologies.

Intel has their Core ultra series in their current line up

Core Ultra > 14th Gen > 13th Gen > 12th Gen.

AMD has their 9000 series in their current line up

9000 > 8000 > 7000 > 6000 > 5000.

• SUFFIXES:
You should also look into the suffixes at the end of each processor
For Intel processers, choose “HX” processor and “HX” for AMD Processors, if you have budget
constraints choose atleast “H” processor, avoid anything below that.

Always look into your processor’s multi core performance, which is what is important for video
editing.

And as far as RAM is concerned, choose at least DDR4, if you could get DDR5 at your budget
choose DDR5, and check the MHz, higher the better.

Always choose SSDs over HDD’s, QLC type of NVMe SSDs are Cheaper and little slower but
TLC types are faster but expensive.
 Finally let’s understand the most important part for a Device,

There are lot of GPUs in the market, to avoid misunderstandings,

Choose Nvidia’s 40 series as they are the latest ones equipped with improved ray tracing and
DLSS 3
Higher the number, powerful the performance.
4090 > 4080 > 4070 > 4060 > 4050.

Always buy laptops with dedicated Graphic cards. i.e., look whether the laptop has Nvidia
graphic card
