Part I

Hello, and welcome everyone to ‘’Cooking with Conor’’. Today, I’m preparing lasagna!
So, what ingredients do we need? As I don’t eat meat, I’ve decided to leave out the beef today –
which is healthier anyway. First, slice some onions, garlic, and tomatoes and fry them in a little
olive oil over low heat. Then, we can sauté some courgette, aubergine and fresh herbs like
parsley, basil, and oregano to bring out the flavours.

Part II

In the next step, we must prepare the béchamel sauce. It’s the white sauce for the lasagna.
Firstly, melt some butter and add the flour. Next, slowly add some milk and blend it until quite
thick. Now, you’re ready to make lasagna. Start with a layer of the sauce mixture in your
casserole dish and top it with a layer of béchamel sauce. Place the lasagna sheets on top.
Sprinkle parmesan cheese over each layer. Repeat the process until you’ve used up everything.
On the top, cover the dish with grated mozzarella. Cook it for about 35 minutes in a hot oven at
180 degrees Celsius. As a side dish, you could have a fresh green salad and enjoy it with a good
French red wine.

10. Let’s eat!
Read the recipe and answer the questions that follow:
Part I
Welcome, students! Today, we’ll be preparing pancakes, also called savory crepes. These are
simple to make but very filling. Firstly, collect your ingredients and start the preparation. You will
need to mix two eggs gently into 300 grams of buckwheat flour, adding a half teaspoon of salt.
If you want to cook for six people, just double the recipe. Now, add 60 milliliters of milk very
gradually. Keep blending it in until you have a liquid-like cream. It should not be too thick as it
will destroy the texture of the crepe. It’s time to cook the batter, so heat a very flat, large frying
pan over medium heat.

Part II
Pour some batter onto the frying pan. Let it spread out to make a very thin pancake. Let it cook
for a couple of minutes and when it’s golden, flip it over and fry on the other side. Quickly - add
your fillings. You can make a ‘complete’ pancake, as the French call it, with some gruyère cheese,
ham, and an egg. Otherwise, you could use ratatouille, which is courgette and tomato, or any
filling you want. I like to make a crepe with smoked salmon and goat’s cheese. When the
pancake is cooked, fold it into a diamond shape, top it with butter, and put it on a plate. Enjoy
this French treat with a glass of cider or fresh apple juice.
