ABSTRACT
Highway pavement maintenance and management are the series concerned and study now a days. Now a days the
highway construction done rapidly in our county, but it is seen that the highway damage and find different types of
failures on it.The different types of failures that I have seen on selected site on bituminous highway are
alligator/map cracking, consolidation failure, sheare failure, longitudinal cracking, bleeding and pumping. To avoid
and maintaining such type of failures is most important due to such type of failure create more problem to traveling,
traffic management and create maximum road accident.
This research paper deals with the investigate different types of failure on flexible pavement and providing
maintained option using proper methodology on selected site.
KEYWORDS: Highway pavement, Types of failure, bitumen, maintain.

I. INTRODUCTION
For fast monetary, social and social advancement of any nation, a decent arrangement of transportation is
fundamental. Transportation framework contains great system of streets, railroads, all around created conduits and
aviation routes. The investigation uncovers that about 25% of complete street lengths in Yavatmal City Corporation
are consistently exist in disappointment condition. Kinds of disappointment existing on the streets are water dying,
breaks, sorrows, edge subsidence, rutting, edge harm, nearby total misfortune, potholes and scoop. averment is
configuration to convey future traffic. Which normally increments throughout the years. Predicating future traffic
development isn't generally exact. This incorrectness in anticipating future traffic influences the precision of
foreseeing asphalt execution and therefore asphalt planned life. The potential reasons for street disappointments are:
inadequate quality properties of bituminous blends, development of over stacking vehicles, terrible seepage
condition and catastrophic event. Because of absence of appropriately and ideal support the disappointment zone is
step by step expanded.
Thus, disappointment of street surface causes automobile overload and mishap. Simultaneously vehicle working
expense is expanded. It makes distress to the travelers. In this examination, from the outset the traditional street
upkeep method is talked about. At that point the upkeep strategy practice in RCC is thought about. It uncovers that
about 60% of the support method practice in RCC is like the traditional street upkeep methodology. The
examination found that the authority of RCC plays out their support work once in a year when apportioned store
accessible. At the point when a traffic wheel proceeds onward the asphalt surface it makes a pressure beat. This
pressure beat makes a unique asphalt reaction. Which is more earnestly to dissect as examinations of static reaction.

Layers Of Bitumen Pavement:

Fig-2: Flexible pavement

1. Surface course:
a) Surface course is top most layer of flexible pavement which has direct connect with vehicular load so good
quality aggregate, bitumen/asphalt is recommended.
b) It should water tight and surface infiltration.
c) Thickness should 25 to 30 mm.

2. Base course:
a) Base course IS important layers and distributed load from top to underneath.
b) It provide structural support for pavement surface.
c) It is constructed with hard and durable aggregate, which may stabilizer or granular.
3. Sub base course:
a) It has sane function has base course. if sub grade course strong and stiff then there is no need of sub base course
b) If sub grade is weak. If subgrade is weak then 100mm thick sub base course should be provided.
4. Sub grade Course:
a) It is the bottom most layers which is natural soil layers, which is compacted up to required depth. generally
about 150 to 300mm to received load from top layer.
b) This layer is term as foundation of pavement system.

Suggested Maintenance Methods:
 Continuous periodic inspection of roads.
 Fill the cracks and repair minor defects on the road surface.
 Construct the shoulders and Repair Edge Cracking of the road.
 The well design camber should be provided.
 Three layers of coats or finishes are provided that are seal coat, tack coat, prime coat
 Construct a water drainage system.
 Surface coats should be water tight against surface water infiltration.
 Base coarse is constructed with hard and durable aggregate which may either stabilizer or granular or both
 The subgrade is weak then minimum 100mm thick sub-base coarse to be provided.
 Periodic cleaning of the road.

III. RESULT AND CONCLUSIONS

 On the basis of various data collection from road construction and maintenance authority, we can say that, most
of the road miniatous works are done emergency basis. Due to lack of quality control, highway and road needs
early and repeated maintained.
 Due to the improper quality and quantity of material as well as design the road seems to be failed.
 The main reason of highway failure is repeated application of wheel load.
