Actualizar Dash 3000
PN 2000966-388
Introduction
These service instructions describe how to install Dash 3000/4000/5000 patient
monitor version 6.5 software using one of the following installation configurations:
PC or PC laptop connected to a Dash 3000/4000/5000 monitor.
PC or PC laptop connected to the Unity Network MC network.
Clinical Information Center (CIC) with a CD-ROM drive networked to the
patient monitor(s).
CAUTION
LOSS OF MONITORING — There may be a temporary loss of monitoring
functions throughout various parts of the monitoring system until the install
is complete on each patient monitor in the system. Do not download
software while a patient monitor is connected to a patient. Medical staff
should be prepared to cover patients in need during these periods of lost
monitoring functions.
Before you begin the installation, inform an appropriate, responsible member of the
site’s staff that you are installing new software on the patient monitor(s) so they may
take appropriate action.
Microsoft® Windows® XP or 2000 operating system Clinical Information Center (CIC) with a
CD-ROM drive networked with the patient

(pn 415480-001) (pn 408997-001) method.
NOTE
In order to upgrade software using a PC, you must be able to change the IP address on
the PC.
If you are using a PC laptop with a docking station, remove the laptop from the docking
station before you begin the installation.
If you are using a PC with a wireless network connection, remove or disable the
wireless network card before you begin the installation.
If the patient monitor is using a Dash Port 2, update the docking station software before
updating the patient monitor software. Then remove the patient monitor from the
docking station before updating the patient monitor software.
If the patient monitor is using a Dash Port, remove the patient monitor from the docking
station before you begin the installation.
1. From the Main Menu, select MORE MENUS > MONITOR SETUP >
REVISION AND ID > SOFTWARE REVISION DISPLAY.
2. Locate MAIN SW REVISION.
3. Verify the software version is 4C or later.
The patient monitor must have an 823 processor board. Perform the following
procedure to identify the current hardware version.
b. Hold down the keys and the Trim Knob control until the screen goes
blank.
c. Continue pressing the keys and release the Trim Knob control.
d. Continue to press the keys until the BOOT LOADER program displays.
2. Locate Hardware Versions.
3. Locate and note the CPU: version (X-XX where X = 1 or 7, and XX = BB or
TB)________________________
4. Verify the hardware version is MPC823.
5. Locate Internet Adr: and note the address: ____________________________
If your patient monitor is not running software version 4C or later or does not have
an 823 processor board, contact your local sales representative for upgrade
information.
CAUTION
CONNECT THE EQUIPMENT TO AN AC POWER SOURCE — The
patient monitor and PC should use a reliable power source during the
installation process. Do not use battery power during the install. A battery
failure during the install process may result in an update process failure.
If a failure occurs while any boot code components are loading, full or
partial monitoring capability is lost. The patient monitor is rendered useless
and requires service by a manufacturer technical support engineer.
1. Connect one end of the category 5 crossover or network patch cable to the PC
network card.
2. Connect the other end of the category 5 crossover patch cable as follows:
Connect to the ETHERNET port of the docking station if the patient
monitor is using a Dash Port 2 docking station. Update the docking station
software before updating the patient monitor software.
Connect to the ETHERNET port of the patient monitor if no docking
station or network is used.
Connect to the Unity Network MC network Ethernet tap if updating
software using the network. If you connect directly to the Unity Network
MC network Ethernet tap, verify that the patient monitor or docking station
is also connected to the Unity Network MC network Ethernet tap.
5. From the toolbar, select Start > Control From the toolbar, select Start > Settings
Panel > Network Connections. > Control Panel > Network and Dial-up
Connections.
7. Select Properties.
9. Click Properties.
11. In the IP Address field, type an IP address. If the patient monitor’s address begins
with 126, use 126.003.145.229.
If using a PC connected to the Unity Network MC network, the IP address on the
PC must match the institution’s Unity Network MC network domain. The network
domain is defined by the first numbers used in the IP address and subnet mask. If
the patient monitor’s address does not begin with 126, contact the IT department
for an IP address.
If using a PC connected to a Dash patient monitor or Dash Port 2 docking station
with a patient monitor, and the IP address does not begin with 126, change the PC
IP address to match the first 3 digits of the patient monitor’s address. The
remaining address must be unique.
13. In the Default gateway field, type 126.003.145.229 and click OK.
15. From the toolbar, select Start > Control From the toolbar, select Start > Settings
Panel. > Control Panel.

NOTE
If you are unsure of the firewall/networking services on your PC, contact your
local IT administrator for details. Windows 2000 and XP PCs allow you to send
a list of services to your IT administrator.
CAUTION
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE — Do not perform simultaneous downloads to
patient monitors from the Unity Network MC network or a CIC.
Performing more than one download from the network or more than four
downloads from a CIC at the same time could cause an update process
failure that damages your patient monitor.
NOTE
Use the List or Details view on your PC when starting the netUpdate.exe
application. Do not use the Thumbnail view.
Always run the netUpdate.exe application from the CD-ROM directory.
Do not run the application from any other directory.

network to other patient monitors with the same software version, patient-
monitor type, software package, and country code. For instructions to transfer
patient monitor defaults, refer to the Service Manual.
CAUTION
When downloading the software files, follow the installation sequence
order defined or you could render the patient monitor useless until it can be
serviced by a manufacturing technical support engineer.
