About This Manual

Release Notes

This manual applies to HUAWEI UMG8900 Universal Media Gateway V200R005.

Organization

This manual describes the orientation, features, service functions and networking
applications of the UMG8900.

This manual is composed of seven chapters and two appendixes.

Chapter 1 UMG8900 Orientation describes the network position of the UMG8900


in Huawei’s GSM solution based on the softswitch architecture and network
evolution.

Chapter 2 Key Benefits describes the major features and benefits of the
UMG8900.

Chapter 3 System Architecture describes the basic components of the UMG8900


in the two respects of hardware and software architecture. This chapter also gives
typical configuration examples.

Chapter 4 Services and Networking Applications details the service functions


and networking applications provided by the UMG8900.

Chapter 5 Reliability presents the reliability designs of the UMG8900 in the three
respects of system, hardware and software reliability.

Chapter 6 OAM System describes the basic components and functions of


UMG8900 Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) system.

Chapter 7 Technical Specifications lists the technical specifications of the


UMG8900.
