Motivation
C. Establishing This module consists of Learning Outcomes (LO’s) that contain learning activities for both
Purpose for the knowledge and skills supported with information sheets, activity sheets and self-checked. Before
Lesson attempting to perform the manual exercises, make sure that you have already read and
understood the information/activity sheet and answered correctly the self-checked provided in
the Learning Activities.
D. Presenting The preceding lesson has taught you about the Different Kinds Electrical Wiring Plan and their
Examples/instan Interpretation.
ces of the new
lesson. TERMS, DEFINITION, and SYMBOL

1. SINGLE POLE SWITCH- it is an (SPST)Single Pole Single Throw Switch that use to control
lamp/s in only one location. Symbol of Single pole switch
2. Return wire- a wire connected to the two terminals, one terminal of bulb or lamp and one
terminal of the switch. In the diagram, you will see the letter (R) a mark used to indicate where
the return wire must be connected
3. Circuit breaker- A protector device that automatically shut down when overload and short
circuits occur. This is where our Line 1 and Line 2 connected or source of every outlet.
4. Conduit – a box in between two boxes where the wire pass-through from one junction box to
another
5. Junction Box – Where the connection of the wire are seen and take place
6. Ground Fault Interrupter (GFCI) – A type of convenience outlet that have a builtin fast-acting
circuit breaker designed to shut off electric power in the event of a ground-fault within as little as
1/40 of a second
Basic important things to remember when working with lighting and convenience outlet wiring
installation based ON PHILIPPINE ELECTRICAL CODE (PEC0
1. We have different wiring outlets in our house. First, the Lighting Outlet which is the
connection of bulbs and switches. Second, the Convenience Outlet, a wiring of a regular
convenience outlet where our Television, electric fan and other appliances are plug-ins. The
third one is the Special Purpose Outlet, where power equipment like aircon, refrigerator are
plug-ins. And all of this outlet has its specific Circuit Breaker for protection.
2. The amperage of Circuit Breaker intended for Lighting Outlet is 15 amperes. For
Convenience Outlet is 20 Amp and for SPO or Special, Purpose Outlet is depending on the
wattage of the load.
3. The maximum value of ampacity of wire used in Lighting outlet is 15 amperes, and the size of
wire is #14 AWG equivalent to 2.0 mm square in a TW insulation type of Wire.
4. For Convenience Outlet the maximum ampacity of wire is 20 amperes, with the size of #12
AWG equivalent to 3.5 mm square in a TW insulation type of wire.
E. Discussing Schematic Diagram is a simplified conventional pictorial representation of an electrical circuit. It
New Concepts shows the components of the circuit as simplified shapes and how to make connections
and Practicing between devices
New Skill
1. Activity INSTRUCTION FOR THE ACTIVITY: By the schematic diagram given a while ago use that as
your reference to connect all the components that we have in the diagram below. TIPS TO
EASILY LEARN THE CONNECTION AND HAVE A NEAT ARRANGEMENT OF LINES IN
YOUR DIAGRAM.

1. Familiarized with the connection and location of each component

2. You can copy the marking of the terminal of each component and terminals that have the
same marking are the terminals connected through lines or wires.
____________________________________________________________________________
______________ (You can use red ball pen for L1 connection, black ball pen for L2, blue ball
pen for Return wire)
3. Enjoy the activit
2. Analysis A pictorial diagram uses pictures to represent the different components of a particular system.
Pictorial diagrams can vary in level of detail. Some diarams may have realistic pictures to make
the various components easier to identify. Others might have simple sketches that can easily be
understood by the average person working on a weekend project
3.
