WARNING PHOTOSENSITIVE SEIZURES

A very small percentage of people may possibly experience a seizure when exposed to certain
light patterns, flashing lights or other visual images that appear in computer software games. If
you, or anyone in your family, have an epileptic condition, consult your physician before installing
or using this software. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an
undiagnosed condition that can possibly cause a seizure while viewing a computer software
game. Reported seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered
vision, eye or face twitching, nausea, headaches, jerking or shaking of arms and legs,
disorientation, confusion, or any involuntary movement or convulsions.

-2- General Troubleshooting

Star Wars® Battlefront™ was designed to run under Windows XP or Windows Vista® with
DirectX 9.0c. If the game unexpectedly freezes up, returns you to your desktop, or if you
experience any other severe problems, you should try to properly shut down Windows and reboot
your computer. (As a rule, you should never turn off your computer while the hard drive is active.)
This will help prevent possible problems related to the error that you have experienced. It is
especially important to reboot your computer before trying any of the troubleshooting tips included
in this guide and before attempting to restart the game.

NOTE: If your computer reboots into Safe Mode, go to Shut Down Windows and choose
Restart the Computer. This will put you back into Windows’ normal operating mode.

Administrative Rights
Some of the steps noted in this Troubleshooting Guide that require you to make adjustments to
your computer, such as setting up your monitor, will not be possible to complete unless you are
logged onto the computer, or have access to an account with Administrative Rights. Without these
rights, you may be unable to select the option because it is grayed out. You will be unable to
install DirectX unless you are logged on with Administrative Rights.

Why Can’t I Get the Launcher to Respond?

 The Star Wars® Battlefront™ DVD may have been removed.
 Your DVD-ROM drive may have stopped responding.
 There may be a hardware conflict in your system.
 The Star Wars® Battlefront™ DVD may have been placed in a CD-ROM drive.
 The Star Wars® Battlefront™ DVD may be scratched or dirty.
 Your computer may not be 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible.
Please consult DirectX Setup (Section 10) or DVD-ROM Drive Issues (Section 8) in this
Trouble-shooting Guide for more information.
Why isn’t my Sound Card or Display Adapter Listed in the System Analyzer?
The System Analyzer in the Star Wars® Battlefront™ launcher requires DirectX 9.0c to
properly detect and provide information regarding certain models of Sound Cards and Display
Adapters. Because of this, the Sound Card or Display Adapter listing may not be displayed until
you install DirectX 9.0c.

I Cannot Launch Star Wars® Battlefront™. What Do I Do Now?

 Check to see how much room is available on your hard drive to make sure that you have
enough free space for Star Wars® Battlefront™ to run. It is recommended that you have at
least 200 MB of free space after installing the game for the Windows swap/page file and save
games.
 Check to see if you have any other applications running, such as memory managers, screen
savers, or virus protection programs. Please refer to Should I have Other Programs
Running in the Background in this section for more information.
 Check DirectX Setup (Section 10) in this Troubleshooting Guide for directions on how to find
out if DirectX supports your computer hardware.
 Check the settings for your firewall or Internet security program. Please refer to Configuring
your Firewall or Internet Security Software in this section for more information.
 Check that you have the latest video drivers available for your machine. See Video Issues
(Section 5) for more information.
 Check the Star Wars® Battlefront™ DVD to see if it is dirty or scratched. The DVD-ROM
drive may be having trouble reading the DVD. Please check DVD-ROM Drive Issues
(Section 8) for more information.
 You may have a corrupted installation. Try uninstalling, and then reinstalling Star Wars®
Battlefront™.
 If none of the suggestions above help, please check Unable to Launch the Game after
Installation in Installation (Section 3).

What Should I Do If My Computer Goes to a Black Screen or Locks Up?

If you end up at a black screen or the game appears to lock up, press CTRL-ALT-DEL once, click
on Task Manager, and then choose END TASK on Star Wars® Battlefront™. This should
take you back to the desktop. If you do not see a dialog box after pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, press
ENTER twice and then you should be back at the desktop. Restart your computer and try running
the game again.

Why Do I Keep Hearing Static in Star Wars® Battlefront™?

 Your sound card may not be fully DirectX compatible. Please look at DirectX Setup (Section
10) in this Troubleshooting Guide for information about how to check for DirectX compatibility.
 You may need to update the drivers for your sound card.
 Your volume may be turned up too loud in Windows.
 Your amplified speakers may be plugged into speaker-out on your sound card.
Please consult Sound Issues (Section 6) in this Troubleshooting Guide for more information.

Should I Have Other Programs Running in the Background?

Generally, we have found that it is not a good idea to run any other programs in the background
while playing Star Wars® Battlefront™. Please turn off any active screen savers while running
this game, as they may interrupt the game and cause problems. Various video, sound, or memory
problems may occur if other programs are running, including virus-detection utilities. You may
need to disable or close programs that start automatically when Windows is started, such as the
Microsoft Office Toolbar and the SoundBlaster Creative Launcher. Some of these programs
display icons on the system tray section of your taskbar. If you have icons on your taskbar, right-
click on each of them and select the option to disable, unload, exit, or close them before running
Star Wars® Battlefront™. The next time you start your computer, these items will load once
more and the icons will return. If you cannot disable them from the taskbar and you experience
problems running Star Wars® Battlefront™, we recommend that you consult Windows Help
for information on how to remove shortcuts or how to keep other programs from running in the
background.

Running on AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core Systems

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a computer with an AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core
Processor, you may experience various performance or graphical issues, such as floating
characters or objects. If this occurs, we recommend that you install the AMD Dual Core Optimizer,
which is available through the Technical Resources area on the AMD website. You can access
this utility in the drivers section of the AMD website.

Running on Low-End Systems

When running Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a low-end system, you may experience some
stuttering in the sound and graphics. This usually happens if other programs are running or your
system resources are low. Freeing up system resources may improve performance. Check
Performance (Section 4) in this troubleshooting guide for more performance tips.

Power Management
If your computer is equipped with a Power Management feature, you may want to disable it.
Please consult your computer's documentation or the manufacturer for assistance in doing this.
When Power Management is enabled, the following problems may occur:
 The game may crash or go to a blue screen when sleep mode activates.
 The Windows mouse cursor may not appear when the computer returns from sleep mode.
 The monitor may go to a black screen while you are playing or when sitting at one screen for
long periods of time.

Desktop Color Palette

If you experience problems running the game, we recommend that you set your desktop Color
Quality or Colors to Highest (32-bit). When running Star Wars® Battlefront™ with desktop
color or color quality set to a setting other than 32-bit, some video cards may experience
problems launching the game or you may see graphic corruption. In most cases, switching to
Highest (32-bit) solves these problems.

To change your desktop color quality:

 Right-click on the desktop where there are no icons.
 Windows XP:
 Choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
 Click on the Settings tab.
 Look at Color Quality.
 Windows Vista®:
 Choose Personalize from the shortcut menu.
 Click on Display Settings.
 Look at Colors.
 Windows 7:
 Choose Personalize from the shortcut menu.
 Click on Display.
 Click on Change display settings.
 Click on Advanced Settings.
 Click on the Monitor tab.
 Look at Colors.
 Choose Highest (32-bit) in Windows XP & Windows Vista® or True Color (32-bit) in
Windows 7.
 Click OK on all windows that were opened.

Task Switching and Windowed Mode

Task Switching and Windowed mode are not supported in Star Wars® Battlefront™.

Keyboard Functionality in Windows

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ pressing ALT, CTRL or SHIFT multiple times may
bring up a Windows dialog box while playing the game. This is a function of Accessibility options.
For information regarding disabling this feature, please consult Windows Help.

Out Of Virtual Memory Error in Windows XP

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a computer with 256 MB of RAM, you may see an
Out of Virtual Memory Error while playing or when exiting this game. If this occurs, we
recommend that you exit the game and reboot your computer to clear the memory before playing
again. If the problem persists, you may want to adjust your Page file settings to allow Windows to
start the game with more virtual memory. Consult Windows Help for information on how to modify
your Page file settings.

-3- Installation
You must have a DVD-ROM drive installed and configured properly in your system in order to
install the DVD version of Star Wars® Battlefront™.

Available Hard Drive Space on Drive C

Installation requires hard drive space on your C drive even when you are installing to a different
hard drive. This is due to a limitation in InstallShield, which requires uninstall information to be
stored on the C drive. Because of this, you may see an error during installation stating that you do
not have enough free space to install the game when there is ample room available in the install
directory. If this occurs, you will need to free at least 20 MB on the C drive prior to installation.

Installing Star Wars® Battlefront™ with Administrator Mode

You must be logged in with local Administrator or Power User rights to properly install Star
Wars® Battlefront™ on a Windows XP or Vista system. After installing the game, you will be
able to play the game on a Limited or Restricted User account. Administrator rights also allow you
to update DirectX in these operating systems.

Installing Star Wars® Battlefront™

Please check the amount of available hard drive space on your system before installing Star
Wars® Battlefront™. Installation requires 2.7 GB of free hard drive space. We recommend
that you have at least an additional 200 MB of free space available for the Windows swap/page
file and save games. If you have too little free space on your hard drive after installing Star
Wars® Battlefront™, you may be unable to start the program.

Automatic installs to the default directory (C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars®

Battlefront™), does not put a shortcut on your desktop, and may install DirectX 9.0c during
installation if it is not already installed on your system.

Custom installation will prompt you for the installation location, ask where to place shortcuts in
the Start Menu, if you want a shortcut on your desktop, and whether you want to install DirectX
9.0c if it is not already installed on your system.
DVD Ejected During Install
If the DVD is removed from the drive during installation at any time other than when prompted to
switch to the next disc, the installation may be incomplete or the game may crash to the desktop.
When this occurs, you may be unable to reinstall through the launcher. To reinstall the game,
insert the Star Wars® Battlefront™ Disc and run Setup, which is located in the GameData
folder on this DVD. This will properly install the game.

Installing DirectX 9.0c

You will be prompted to install DirectX 9.0c during the installation of Star Wars® Battlefront™
if it is not already installed on your system. DirectX 9.0c must be installed on the system to play
the game.

If you choose not to install DirectX 9.0c, you may experience crashes in the game when
attempting to play Star Wars® Battlefront™ on an earlier DirectX version.

Installing GameSpy Arcade

You will be prompted to install GameSpy Arcade during the installation of Star Wars®
Battlefront™. GameSpy Arcade is the arcade for the Internet, where millions of gamers meet
to play hundreds of online multiplayer games and free game demos. You must have Administrator
rights in order to properly install GameSpy Arcade.

Component Transfer Error

You may see a Component Transfer Error message when installing the game. If this occurs, you
may be attempting to install to a location such as your DVD-ROM drive.

Shortcut Does Not Appear on the Desktop

You will be prompted to create a shortcut to Star Wars® Battlefront™ on your desktop during
Custom Installation. The shortcut to the game may not be displayed on your desktop after
installation if your system is configured for multiple users, with each person using a separate
profile. If this occurs, you will need to navigate to the Windows Desktop folder and copy the
shortcut to your current desktop or copy the shortcut from the Start Menu to your desktop.

Can I Move the Star Wars® Battlefront™ Folder After I Install?

If you wish to move the Star Wars® Battlefront™ folder to a new folder, we recommend that
you uninstall first, then reinstall to the new location. When uninstalling, make sure to choose Yes
when prompted to keep your user profile so you do not lose your progress. Simply moving the
folder will cause the uninstaller to be unable to find the program and you will need to manually
uninstall the game.

-4- Performance
Performance Issues in Star Wars® Battlefront™
When running Star Wars® Battlefront™ on the minimum required system, you may
experience the following issues:
 There may be stuttering in the voice and sound.
 There may be pauses or hitching during the opening movie.
 There may be a slight hitch in game play when sound effects play in the game.
 Transitions may take a long time.
 There may be slow downs or stuttering during game play.

This occurs most frequently when other programs are running or if your system resources are
below 70%. Freeing up system resources may improve performance in the game. For more
information, please refer to the Close All Other Programs Before Running Star Wars®
Battlefront™ section below.

Improving Performance in Star Wars® Battlefront™

The following are a few suggestions that may free up system resources and improve performance
in Star Wars® Battlefront™.

To run Star Wars® Battlefront™ with optimal performance:

 No other programs should be running in the background:
 This includes virus-scanning, word processing, and Internet programs.
 Simply disabling these programs will not always help, as the programs still use
resources that are needed to run Star Wars® Battlefront™.
 If you experience problems completely closing programs that are running, consult
the documentation for those individual programs (This is a common problem when trying
to completely disable virus-scanning software).
 System resources should be at least 70% free. To check this: Right click on the Task Bar,
choose Task Manager, choose the Performance tab, and check CPU Usage.
 There should be at least 500 MB of free hard disk space on the system drive (drive “C:\”) after
installation.

Adjusting Configuration Options for Optimal Performance

If you experience any performance problems when running Star Wars® Battlefront™, we
recommend that you adjust your in-game options based upon the following guidelines:

 Choose Options.
 Select Video Options.
 Set In-Game Resolution to 800 x 600.
 Set Texture Detail to Low.
 Set Terrain Quality to Low.
 Set Water Quality to Low.
 Set Particle Quality to Low.
 Disable Shadows.
 Disable Bumpmapping.
 Disable Motion Blur.
 Disable Distortion Effects.
 Select Audio Options.
 Disable Bass Management.
 Disable Effects.

Close All Other Programs Before Running Star Wars® Battlefront™

Please close all other programs before running Star Wars® Battlefront™. This includes virus-
scanning, word processing, and Internet programs. Simply disabling these programs will not
always help, as the programs still use resources that are needed to run Star Wars®
Battlefront™. If you experience problems completely closing programs that are running, consult
the documentation for those individual programs. This is a common problem when trying to
completely disable virus-scanning software.

Performance Issues with Low-Cost DSL Packages

Users of low-cost DSL packages may experience significant lag while playing Star Wars®
Battlefront™. This may be due to increased bandwidth restrictions placed on these types of
accounts by the ISP. Some ISPs offer lower rates by not guaranteeing the 384KBps download
and 128KBps upload minimum rates generally considered to be the standard for Broadband.
These users may have experiences closer to Dial-up than Broadband. Please check with your
ISP to determine how much bandwidth is guaranteed with your DSL service if you are
experiencing these issues.

-5- Video Issues

To be able to play Star Wars® Battlefront™, you must have a Hardware Transform and
Lighting (T&L) capable, or better graphics card.

This section of the Troubleshooting Guide will provide you with information on problems
encountered with specific video cards while running Star Wars® Battlefront™. First check to
see if your chipset is listed in the “supported 3D chipsets” section. If your chipset is supported but
you are unable to resolve any video issues through this Troubleshooting Guide, please contact
your hardware manufacturer for updated video drivers. We have included a list of web sites for
downloading drivers for your specific card at the end of this document.

General Information and Troubleshooting Tips

Vertex Shader and Pixel Shader Capability

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a graphics card without Vertex Shader and Pixel
Shader (VS/PS) capabilities, you will be unable to see the effects of Bumpmapping, High Terrain
Detail, Medium and High Water Quality, or High Shadow Quality. This occurs because these
selections in the Video Options menu require VS/PS capabilities.

Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) and Anisotropic Filtering

Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) and Anisotropic Filtering are considered advanced features,
which require extra processing power and resources from your graphics cards. These features
may adversely affect your framerate if your video card does not have the power to render them. If
you experience low framerates with these features enabled, we recommend that you set Anti-
Aliasing to Off in the Video Options menu, and disable Full Scene Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic
Filtering in the Windows Display Properties.

Low-end Graphics Card Issues

When using a low-end graphics card, you may experience the following issues when playing Star
Wars® Battlefront™:
 You may see flickering graphics.
 Textures may be missing or they may display incorrectly.
 Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) may not appear to work correctly.
 Performance may be slow in some areas.
 You may see poor frame rate in the game if the in-game resolution is set to 1152 x 864 or
higher.
Please check Adjusting Configuration Options for Optimal Performance in the Performance
Section of this Troubleshooting Guide for recommended settings if you experience any of the
issues listed above.

FSAA and Low-end Graphics Cards

Selecting certain FSAA settings on a minimum spec graphics card may not produce the
anticipated results. Setting this option to 4X FSAA will revert back to 2X FSAA if the card does not
have enough memory to support it.

Poor Performance and Missing Textures

You may experience poor performance and/or missing textures when playing Star Wars®
Battlefront™. If this occurs, please check the following:
 Make sure that your video card is supported. Please check the list of Supported 3D Chipsets
in the Video Section of this troubleshooting guide to see if your chipset is listed.
 Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Please check the Video Section of
this troubleshooting guide for the list of drivers that were tested with this game.

System Tray Application Icons

Animated application tray icons that regularly refresh or periodically update such as new mail
notification icons or system temperature monitors may appear to flash in the bottom right corner
of the screen while in game. It is recommended that you either close the application associated
with the tray icon, set the application to not update the tray icon, or disable the tray icon entirely
while in game.

Graphical Corruption when Adjusting Options

You may see graphical corruption after adjusting certain options in the Video Settings menu in
the in-game options screen. This will correct itself when you select resume the game.

1280 x 960 and Higher Display Mode Settings

Some cards may have issues when running the game after selecting 1280 x 960 or higher for the
In-Game Resolution, especially when using a 64 MB graphics card. You may experience severe
hitching, a generally poor framerate, or occasional lock ups or crashes. If any of these issues
occur when playing Star Wars® Battlefront™, please select a lower resolution.

Crashing After Selecting 1280 x 960 or Higher Display Mode

The game may crash to the desktop or display an error message when you attempt to start a
game after changing resolutions in the Video Options menu. This occurs if your monitor or its
driver does not support the resolution you selected. If this occurs, you may need to delete the
vidmode.ini file in the Star Wars® Battlefront™\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC folder before
restarting the game. You may need to select the correct driver for your monitor or install the
Windows Plug and Play driver to select higher resolutions.

Black Screen after Changing In-Game Resolutions

When selecting a resolution in the Video Options menu, the screen may go black and display an
‘out of frequency message’ or the game may display incorrectly. This occurs when you select a
resolution that your monitor cannot display correctly. If this occurs, you will need to exit the game,
and then launch the game and create a new profile, which resets the options to default.

Integrated Video Chipsets

When your computer has an onboard video chip on the motherboard and the system only meets
the minimum requirement for RAM, you may experience various problems that occur because the
video chipset may use system memory for its video memory. You may experience the following
issues:
 Star Wars® Battlefront™ may not run.
 Transitions may be slow.
 The frame rate may be slow and choppy.

Setting Up Your Monitor

If you experience any video problems, make sure that your monitor is set up correctly in the
display control panel. To do this:
 Windows XP: Right-click on the desktop where there are no icons.
 Choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
 Click on the Settings tab.
 Click on Advanced…
 Windows Vista®: Right-click on the desktop where there are no icons.
 Choose Personalize from the shortcut menu.
 Click on Display Settings.
 Click on Advanced Settings…
 Select the Monitor tab and click on Properties.
 Click on the Driver tab.
 Click on Update Driver…
 Choose Install from list or specific location…
 Choose Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install…
 Click on Next>
 Choose your monitor from the list. If you are unable to find your monitor listed, please consult
the manufacturer of your monitor to see if they have Windows drivers available. This driver allows
Windows to set up the monitor correctly.
 If the correct monitor is not an option in Show Compatible Devices, click on Show All
Devices, scroll through the list of manufacturers, click on the correct one, then click on the name
of your monitor. If you are unable to find the correct monitor listed, go to standard monitor types at
the top of this list and select Plug and Play or Generic PnP Monitor. This driver should work
with most Windows compatible plug and play monitors, and may correct issues with some older
graphics cards.

Non-DDC Monitors
We have found that when using a non-DDC monitor, refresh rates and resolutions may not be
reported correctly to Windows. A Non-DDC (Display Data Channel) monitor cannot communicate
with the video card to access information regarding the supported resolutions and refresh rates.
When using a non-DDC monitor, you may experience the following issues at certain resolutions:
 Black screens
 Stretched or skewed screen sizes
 The game may draw past the bottom and right margins of the screen when the in-game
resolution is set to 800x600 or 1152x864.
 The top portion of the screen may not be visible.
 Sniper zoom UI may not display correctly.
 The static effect may not be displayed when near a SCAV or jamming device.
 The screen display may be corrupt when your resolution is set to 640x480. If this occurs, you
may see duplicated images on screen.
To correct these issues, you will need to choose a different in-game resolution from the in-game
Graphics Options menu of Star Wars® Battlefront™.

Multi-Monitor Configurations
Multi-monitor configurations are not supported in Star Wars® Battlefront™,.

Flat Panel Monitors

We have found that some resolutions are not scaled correctly with certain video drivers when
using a flat panel monitor. This is an issue with the manufacturer display drivers themselves, and
not an issue with Star Wars® Battlefront™. When using a flat panel monitor, you may
experience the following issues at certain resolutions:
 Stretched or skewed screen sizes.
 The game may draw past the bottom and right margins of the screen when the in-game
resolution is set a resolution higher than 1280x800.
 The top portion of the screen may not be visible.
To correct these issues, we recommend that you select a different in-game screen Resolution.

Testing Your Video Card in DirectX Diagnostics

After installing DirectX 9.0c, you can run the DirectX Diagnostics program to test your video
card. To do this:
 Select Help from the Star Wars® Battlefront™ launcher.
 Select Analyze your Computer.
 Click on DirectX Diagnostics. This takes you to the DirectX Diagnostics screen.
 Click the tab that says Display, and then click on Test next to Direct3D. If your card fails
these tests, you may have problems running Star Wars® Battlefront™ or any other
program that requires Direct3D.

Currently Supported Cards and Chipsets

Below is a list of the video cards and chipsets that are supported in Star Wars® Battlefront™.
If you do not see your card listed, but you do see a chipset that matches the one used on your

-6- Sound Issues

If you are unable to resolve sound problems through this troubleshooting guide, please contact
your hardware manufacturer for updated drivers.

DirectX Compatibility
Your sound card needs to be DirectX 9.0c compatible to run Star Wars® Battlefront™.
Consult the DirectX Setup section in this Troubleshooting Guide for information about how to
check for DirectX support. If the driver for your hardware is not DirectX compatible, check with
your hardware manufacturer for updated drivers.

NOTE: If the Media Player is not installed, some of the following instructions will not work. If you
want to add it, please consult Windows Help for assistance. Just type Media Player in the index
section of Windows Help and follow the directions provided by Windows.

Static Or Distortion in Star Wars® Battlefront™

You may hear occasional static in sound effects or sound distortion in the game if the volume is
set too high. If this occurs, we recommend that you lower the volume control in the game. If that
does not correct the issue, you will need to lower the volume control in Windows. Some cards
work best with the Windows Wave volume set to 50%.

Adjusting Volume Levels Within Star Wars® Battlefront™

To access these options:
 Press ESC to access the in-game menu.
 NOTE: If you are at the Main Menu, proceed to the following step.
 Select Options.
 Select Audio Options.
 Adjust the Master Volume, Music Volume, SFX Volume, or Speech Volume sliders.

Adjusting the Volume Through Windows

With some sound cards, you may want to adjust the volume in the Windows control panel before
starting Star Wars® Battlefront™, or you may need to exit the game to adjust the volume.
Double click on the Volume Control icon on your task bar and adjust the volume control, CD audio
and wave volume. If the Volume Control icon is not on your taskbar, follow these directions to
adjust your volume:
 Click on the Start button on your taskbar.
 Choose All Programs.
 Choose Accessories.
 Choose Entertainment.
 Choose Volume Control.
 Adjust the Wave Volume slider.
 If you are not hearing any sound, make sure to de-select the MUTE box below the Wave
Volume slider.

Default Volume Levels Vary in Different Operating Systems

The default volume levels vary greatly on some sound cards in the different operating systems.
Because of this, you may need to adjust your volume control in Windows before entering the
game. Please follow the instructions above for information on adjusting the volume through
Windows.

Volume Control Programs

Some sound card and/or PC manufacturers may have proprietary software that must be adjusted
separately from the Windows Volume control. Consult your hardware documentation for more
information.

Keyboard Volume Control

Some of the newer keyboards allow you to adjust your Volume control directly on your keyboard.
Consult your hardware documentation for more information.

Powered or Amplified Speakers

If you have powered speakers and have both line-out and speaker-out jacks on your sound card,
try plugging your speakers into the line-out jack. Most sound cards’ speaker-out jacks have an
amplified signal and may cause static or popping on your amplified speakers. Switching to your
line-out jack may greatly improve the sound quality.

General Sound Card Troubleshooting

If your sound card is not set up correctly in Windows, not 100% DirectX or Windows XP or Vista
compatible, or you have a resource conflict, these sound problems may occur:
 You may hear static.
 You may hear repeating sounds.
 There may be no sound.
 The sound may drop out.
 You may experience a clicking or crackling sound.

Testing Your Sound Card in Windows

You can use the Windows Media Player to play a sound to make sure your sound card is set up
correctly in Windows. To do this:
 Click on the Start button on your taskbar.
 Select All Programs.
 Select Accessories.
 Select Entertainment.
 Select Windows Media Player.
 Go to the File menu.
 Choose Open... and choose a sound to test. Please be sure to choose Files of type: Sound
(*.wav).

Testing Your Sound Card in DirectX Diagnostics

After installing DirectX 9.0c, you can run the DirectX Diagnostics program to test your sound
card. To do this:
 Select Help from the Star Wars® Battlefront™ launcher.
 Select Analyze Your Computer.
 Click on DirectX Diagnostics. This takes you to the DirectX Diagnostics screen.
 Click the tab that says Sound, and then click on Test. If your card fails these tests, you may
have problems running Star Wars® Battlefront™ or any other program that requires
DirectX.
Audio Crackling or Breaking Up
You may hear your audio start crackling or breaking up on some devices. If this occurs, we
recommend that you upgrade to the latest drivers for your audio device. If this issue continues,
you may also want to increase the size of audio streaming buffers using the command line option
/audiomixbuffer followed by the size of the mixing buffer in milliseconds. For example,
battlefront.exe /audiomixbuffer 200 will ensure the minimum mixing buffer size used is 200
milliseconds or 0.2 seconds. If high-end audio hardware is being used, it is possible to specify
very small buffer sizes (e.g. 20ms) to achieve lower latency (more responsive) audio in the game.
NOTE: Setting a smaller buffer size on some audio devices could result in higher processor load.
We recommend that you refer to the section below on Skipping and Stuttering Audio for
information on adding and using the /audiomixbuffer command line.

Mixer, Output, and Effects Modes in Audio Options

There are different Mixer, Output, and Effects modes available in the Audio Options menu
depending on the sound card installed. The sound engine for Star Wars® Battlefront™ has a
total of four different mixer configurations.
 Software with Effects: Star Wars® Battlefront™ has its own software sound-mixing
engine with effects processing. This enables a computer with a sound card that does not
support hardware mixing and hardware effects to use effect processing. The speaker
configurations available in this mode are:
 Mono
 Headphones
 Stereo
 Dolby Pro Logic II
 Software with No Effects: When using this mode, mixing is performed by the DirectSound
mixer. The available mixer configurations available are:
 Mono
 Headphones
 Stereo
 Dolby Pro Logic II
 Quadraphonic
 5.1
 7.1
 Hardware with Effects: This can only be selected if hardware mixing and EAX compatible
effects are available on your sound card. When using this mode, mixing and effects
processing are performed by the sound card or in the sound card’s driver.
 Hardware with No Effects: This mode can only be selected if hardware mixing is available
on your sound card. The mixing is performed by the sound card or in the sound card’s driver.

The Output Modes for the hardware mixer are the same as software with effects disabled, with
the exception that you have Surround as an option rather than Dolby Pro Logic II. Surround is an
analog encoding method that outputs two channels (front left / right), which must be decoded
using an external decoder for multichannel output.

Specific Sound Issues

Skipping or Stuttering Audio

Several of the following card specific issues refer to stuttering, skipping, or hitching sound in the
game. This issue is improved on most hardware by adding a command line switch to a shortcut
for the Battlefront.exe. Adding this switch helps correct stuttering, skipping, or hitching in the
games soundtrack. To do this:
 Navigate to the GameData folder where you installed the game, right-click on Battlefront.exe
and select Create a Shortcut from the menu.
 Right-click on the shortcut you just created and select Properties from the popup menu.
 Set your cursor after the parenthesis at the end of the path in the Target dialogue box.
 Hit the space bar once and then type /audiomixbuffer 50.
 Click the Ok button.
 Launch Star Wars® Battlefront™ from the shortcut you just made.

NOTE: You cannot use command line switches with the Battlefront shortcut created during
installation. This shortcut points to a different executable file.

Selecting the Correct Output Mode

You will be able to select Output Mode selections in Audio Options that are not optimal for your
system. Setting an Output Mode greater than the amount of speakers you have may cause some
sounds in the game not to be heard.

Issues When Output Mode Set to Mono

When you have the Output Mode set to Mono with the Mixer Config set to Hardware, you may
hear sound separation between the right and left speaker and sound panning when sounds move
in the game.

Enabling Quadraphonic, 5.1, or 7.1 When Using Software Sound

In order to use the Output Modes Quadraphonic, 5.1, or 7.1 when using the Software sound
mixer, you must first change Mixer Config to Hardware, set the desired Output Mode, and then
change the Mixer Config back to Software. For example, to use 5.1 sound with the software
mixer, you will first change the Mixer Config to Hardware, set the Output Mode to 5.1, and then
change the Mixer Config back to Software.

No Music in Shell after Quitting Level

When the Mixer Config is set to Hardware, you may not hear music playing in the shell after you
quit out of a level. The music will return within a couple of minutes.

USB Headsets
When you plug in a USB Headset, this device will be set as the primary audio device on your
system. All sound and music on your computer will play through the headphones until the primary
device is changed back to the sound card. This will cause sound, voice, and music in Star
Wars® Battlefront™ to play through your headset. To correct this, you will need to select your
sound card as the primary device in the Sound and Audio Device Control Panel in Windows.

AOpen AW230
When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on an AOpen AW230, you may hear the audio
frequently stutter in the game and in the Spawn screen. We recommend that you refer to the
section above on Skipping and Stuttering Audio for information on adding and using the
/audiomixbuffer command line, which may improve this issue. We also recommend that you
check for updated drivers, which may correct this issue.

Creative Labs Cards and 5.1 or 7.1 Speaker Configurations

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ using 5.1 or 7.1 speaker configurations, the game
enhances the output of the centre speaker to make sound effects that emanate from the player
more predominant on Creative Labs cards. If the output of the centre speaker is too loud in
relation to the other speakers, it’s possible to disable this centre speaker enhancement by
running Star Wars® Battlefront™ with the /audionoenhance switch. We recommend that you
refer to the section above on Skipping and Stuttering Audio for information on adding and using
the /audionoenhance command line to a shortcut to the game.

Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 PCI

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a SoundBlaster 16 PCI card, you may experience
crashes in the game after adjusting Audio Options in the game. You may experience a crash

 Adjusting the Output Mode in Audio Options does not correctly change the speaker
configuration. This occurs because the Output Mode is using the speaker configuration that is
selected in the Creative Labs Speaker Settings application.
 When the Mixer Config is set to Hardware with Output Mode set to Quadraphonic, you may
hear a warble or echo in the sound effects in the game. This does not occur when the Mixer
Config is set to Software.

Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! or SoundBlaster Live! OEM

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a SoundBlaster Live!, you may experience the
following issues:
 You may not hear sound from your rear speakers when the Output Mode is set to Surround.
 Adjusting the Output Mode in Audio Options does not correctly change the speaker
configuration. This occurs because the Output Mode is using the speaker configuration that is
selected in the Creative Labs Speaker Settings application.
 When using the SB Live! OEM, blaster sounds may play in an erratic pattern during a
firefight. We recommend that you refer to the section above on Skipping and Stuttering Audio
for information on adding the command line /audiomixbuffer 50 to a Battlefront.exe shortcut,
which corrects this issue.
 When Mixer Config is set to Hardware with Output Mode set to Quadraphonic, rear speaker
output may sound the same as the front. This does not occur when the Mixer Config is set to
Software.

Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! mp3+

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a SoundBlaster Live! Mp3+, you may experience
hitching during battle and when firing a weapon, or the in-game music soundtrack may skip and
hitch. We recommend that you refer to the section above on Skipping and Stuttering Audio for
information on adding the command line /audiomixbuffer 50 to a Battlefront.exe shortcut, which
corrects this issue.

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1, Audigy, or Audigy 2

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1, Audigy,
or Audigy 2 cards, you may not hear sound playing from all speakers. If this occurs, you may
need to enable CMSS: Stereo Up-Mix to Multichannel in the Creative EAX Console. This
feature must be enabled to allow the music, dialogue, and ambient sound to be mixed into the
rear channels. NOTE: Please make sure the mixer is not set to 100% front.

Creative Labs Audigy 2 NX

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on an Audigy 2 NX audio device, you may experience
the following issues:

issue.
 When Mixer Config is set to Software, all sounds may play at a lower pitch than normal.
Setting the Mixer Config to Hardware corrects this issue.
 When using this card in Windows XP with the Windows driver (5.12.0001.0643), you may
hear intermittent static and popping in sound effects in the game. This does not occur when
using the manufacturer driver version 1.30.03 (5.12.0001.0635).

M-Audio Revolution 7.1

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on M-Audio Revolution 7.1, we recommend that you
select Sensaura/Game Mode in the Surround Sound section of the M-Audio Control Panel. You
may experience the following issues when you select other settings:
 When this option is set to No Surround Processing or SRS Circle Surround II mode, you may
experience severe framerate hitching in the game, making the game unplayable.
 When this option is set to No Surround Processing mode, you may not hear sound effects
playing from the rear channels.
 When Surround Sound is set to SRS Circle Surround II or No Surround, you may hear static
in sound effects when the Mixer Config is set to Software with Effects enabled.
 When Surround Sound is set to SRS Circle Surround II, there will be no voices in the game.
This does not occur when set to Sensaura/Game Mode or No Surround Processing.
 You will be unable to set Mixer Config to Hardware unless Surround Sound is set to
Sensaura/Game Mode.
NOTE: When using Sensaura/Game Mode, sound will not play from the rear speakers when the
speaker setup is set to 4.0 Surround Sound (Game). Setting the speaker setup to 4.0 Surround
Sound corrects this issue.

Microsoft Digital Sound System 80

When using these speakers in USB mode, you may intermittently hear static and distortion in the
audio. This occurs because the USB speakers require CPU time to run. Windows allocates 100%
of the CPU to the programs that are running, such as Star Wars® Battlefront™, while some
USB devices take up to 10% of the CPU, in effect trying to use 110% of the resources.

NVIDIA nForce3
When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a motherboard with an NVIDIA nForce3 chipset,
you may experience the following issues:
 When the Output Mode is set to 5.1, or 7.1, you may not hear any sound effects play during
menu transitions when using the NVIDIA drivers for this chipset. To correct this we
recommend that you use the motherboard drivers for your particular motherboard.
 You may not hear sound effects play out of the rear channel.
 You may be unable to set the Mixer Config to Hardware when using the NVIDIA nForce3
drivers. To correct this, we recommend that you use the motherboard drivers for your
particular motherboard.

Phillips Seismic Edge

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a Philips Seismic Edge, you may experience the
following issues:
 You may experience the following issues in Windows XP:
 When using the Windows driver (5.12.0001.0044), you may hear intermittent static and
popping in sound effects in the game. This does not occur when using the manufacturer
driver PSC70517_WDM_ENG_V189.
 When using the manufacturer driver noted above with the Mixer Config set to Hardware
with Effects enabled, sound is always mono. Setting Mixer Config to Software corrects
this issue.
 When Mixer Config is set to Hardware with Effects disabled, you may hear static in the

Think QX-1004
When using this card in Star Wars® Battlefront™ in Windows XP with manufacturer CD
driver version 2.79b (5.12.0001.0630), all audio may drop out and you may hear a low-pitched
buzz, which replaces the audio in the game. This issue does not occur when using the Windows
driver (5.12.0001.0643), although the rear speakers will not function when using this driver. We
recommend that you use the C-Media driver version 639 (5.12.0001.0639), which corrects both of
these issues.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

When playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ on a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, you may experience
the following issues:
 When the Mixer Config is set to Hardware, you may experience hitching and stuttering in the
game. We recommend that you check the section above on Skipping and Stuttering Audio for
information on adding the command line /audiomixbuffer 50 to a Battlefront.exe shortcut,
which improves this issue. It may also help to reduce the maximum number of sounds that
are played simultaneously by adding /audiomaxchannels after the previous switch. Reducing
the maximum number of channels to 16 with the switch /audiomaxchannels 16 should
remedy the audio stuttering when using this card.
 The rear speakers may not function as designed. Adjusting the Output Mode in Audio Options
does not correctly change the speaker configuration. This occurs because the Output Mode is
using the speaker configuration that is selected in the Turtle Beach control panel.

Vortex and Vortex 2 Based Sound Cards

We are unable to provide support for Vortex or Vortex 2 based sound cards in this game. This
includes the Turtle Beach Montego family of sound cards, as well as other cards with these
chipsets.

-7- Connectivity Devices and Issues

This section lists some of the common connectivity issues that may occur and some information
to help you avoid these issues. For more information, please refer to the Star Wars®
Battlefront™ Manual or the LucasArts Home Page on the World Wide Web at
http://support.lucasarts.com

Connection Related Issues

You Need an Account With an ISP to Play on the Internet

You must have a connection to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to connect with other players
through GameSpy. This includes Cable Modem service, xDSL service and Direct Corporate
Connections. If you need help configuring your computer to use the Internet, contact your ISP’s
technical support.

Connect to the Internet Before Launching Star Wars® Battlefront™

DSL users generally need to establish a connection to the Internet before starting Star Wars®
Battlefront™. Cable modems users are generally automatically connected when Windows
starts.

The following items are known to be sources of connection issues and the information may be
helpful if you are having problems connecting or staying connected to Star Wars®
Battlefront™. We understand that some of these devices or technologies may have been in
place for periods of time and have only recently begun having problems. We suggest that you try
these troubleshooting tips.

Firewall, Proxy, or Anti-Virus Software

While an important part of home computer security or a way to provide connection sharing, these
technologies can interfere with game connectivity. If you are having connection problems and are
using one of these types of software you may need to temporarily disable it, and then try
connecting to the game. If the issues cease while this software is disabled, please refer to the
section Configure Your Firewall or Router for Internet Play below. Please refer to the
GameSpy Firewall support webpage located at
http://www.gamespyarcade.com/support/firewalls.shtml for further information on how to use
GameSpy with firewalls.

PPPoE Connections
Some PPPoE connections require a login and password, as well as a phone number to dial into
the connection. Please make sure you make note of this information so that when the time comes
to input it, you will have it available to use without having to contact your ISP.

Configuring Online Options

 Hosting bandwidth: Home connections have various upload and download capabilities.
Upload bandwidth is often much less then download. If you wish to Host a game, please
review the chart below, which outlines the optimal number of players for certain upload
capabilities. If you are uncertain of your upload capabilities, contact your Internet Service
Provider (ISP). You may also want to check sites such as www.dslreports.com to get an
approximation of your connection capabilities.

 Ticks per second: Ticks per second is how often the server updates the clients. The higher
the number, the smoother the game experience. However a higher number will result in
higher data transfer, which could cause performance problems for people under the
bandwidth restrictions. You will be able to select 15, 20 and 30 ticks per second for this
option.

Multiplayer Connection Options

When you choose to play a multiplayer game, you have three options available for connecting to
or hosting a game. These options are:
 Gamespy: These games are found via queries to gamespy servers. If the host you join is on
your LAN, game data will still be passed at LAN speeds.

 Direct IP: These games are found by user specification of host address. If the host you join is
on your LAN, game data will still be passed at LAN speeds.

 LAN: These games are found via broadcast packets. The game data is sent at high
resolution. Because of this, the game packet size is doubled.
Getting Disconnected After Starting Star Wars® Battlefront™
You may be disconnected from your ISP connection while playing Star Wars® Battlefront™ if
your Internet Options in the Windows Control Panel is set to automatically disconnect after a
certain period of inactivity. We recommend that you disable this option before playing Star
Wars® Battlefront™ to prevent being disconnected while in game.

Internet Performance Issues

The time of day can have an impact on your connection quality. If you have trouble playing Star
Wars® Battlefront™ over your Internet connection during peak hours, you might try playing
later at night or at other times of the day to get a better quality connection. Setting the game to
display at a lower screen resolution or setting Texture Quality to Low in the Video Options menu
may increase performance while playing Star Wars® Battlefront™.

 Dropped Packets: Each piece of data that is sent over a network or the Internet is called a
packet. It is important for all of these packets to be delivered intact and in a timely manner for
a smooth multiplayer experience. The Internet can frequently drop packets (lose them)
depending on the quality of your connection and the amount of traffic on the Internet itself. If
packets can't get through between a player and the Star Wars® Battlefront™ servers due
to a poor connection, some issues may occur.

 Latency: Latency is a measure of the time (in milliseconds) that it takes for data to travel
round-trip from one computer to another over a Network or the Internet. On the Internet, high
latency can cause game performance to degrade severely. When playing any game over the
Internet, it is important to have a low latency connection. High latency will contribute to poor
multiplayer performance and decreased stability.

 Connection Problems: If you are consistently having trouble with dropped packets or
latency, the following are a few things you can try to help with your connection to the Internet:
 Disconnect and reconnect to your ISP.
 Try another ISP. Some Internet providers have slow or congested networks and are not
suitable for gaming. If you consistently have trouble joining games or lose connection
after joining a game you may have an unreliable ISP.

Configure Your Firewall or Router for Internet Play

Firewall software is designed to prevent hostile action from outside your computer or network
from affecting files on your hard drive. Internet gaming activity can seem like such action to this
type of software. You may encounter problems trying to connect to a multiplayer game if your
computer is behind a firewall. Please refer to your firewall documentation for suggestions on how
to allow specific programs to operate through it if you do not intend to temporarily take it down, or
ask your network/system administrator for assistance. In addition, many routers designed to
share one Internet connection among more than one computer have firewalls built into them.
Please refer to the GameSpy Firewall support webpage located at
http://www.gamespyarcade.com/support/firewalls.shtml for further information on how to use
GameSpy with firewalls.

Routers
In general, they should be able to connect to the game without modifications needed to the router.
However, if you are experiencing connection problems and are using a router, we suggest
bypassing the router and connecting directly to your connectivity device. If your problems cease
while bypassing the router you can try these things:
 Try resetting your router to its default settings.
 Check your router manufacturer’s website for any available Firmware updates. If available,
download and install those.
Star Wars® Battlefront™ was tested with various routers to ensure your gaming experience
is not hindered by possible disconnects. The following personal routers/home firewalls were
tested with Star Wars® Battlefront™ and are able to be used under their default
configurations. If you experience a problem connecting to the Star Wars® Battlefront™
server, we suggest that you set your router back to its default settings.

-8- DVD-ROM Drive Issues

You must have a DVD-ROM drive installed and configured properly in your system in order to
install the DVD version of Star Wars® Battlefront™. The Star Wars® Battlefront™ DVD
will not function in a CD-ROM drive.

Star Wars® Battlefront™ does not access game disc during play. However, if you are
experiencing problems when installing or launching the game, your DVD-ROM may not meet the
minimum requirements to run Star Wars® Battlefront™ or there may be a problem with your
drive.

DVD-ROM Access Error

A blue screen DVD-ROM access error might be a symptom of one of these problems:
 You may have a dirty or scratched DVD.
 Your DVD-ROM drive may be having trouble reading the disc. This is common on some 8X
(eight speed) DVD-ROM drives.
 Your DVD-ROM drive may be getting old or worn.
 Your DVD-ROM may not be properly installed in Windows.
First, check your DVD for any dirt, fingerprints, smudges or scratches. To clean your DVD, wipe it
gently with a soft cloth, moving in smooth strokes from the center hub to the outer edge of the
DVD. If your DVD looks fine, replace it in the drive and see if you continue to have this problem. If
the problem persists, try testing the drive with a different DVD.

If you are experiencing this problem, please contact your computer manufacturer or a computer
technician for assistance in correcting this problem before attempting to install the game.
-9- Controller Device Issues
USB Devices
When using USB devices on your system, you may occasionally hear static and distortion in
audio or you may experience slow downs and hitching in the game. This occurs because the USB
device requires a percentage of the CPU’s processing time and Star Wars® Battlefront™ is
also using a portion of the CPU time for the game.

Joystick and Gamepad Issues

Character Movement Without Input

When a game controller is connected to your computer, it may cause your player character and/or
mouse pointer to move in the game without any user input. If this occurs, please check the
throttle on the game controller to assure that it is set to the center position. We recommend that
you check the game controller control panel to assure that your game controller is properly
configured in Windows.

Joystick Axis Reversed

The X-Axis and Y-axis on your joystick may appear to be reversed in the game. If this occurs, you
will need to go to the Control Options menu to remap it to the correct axis. To do this, look at the +
or – symbol in the mapping screen and change it to the opposite of your current setting.

Joystick Configuration
You will need to map the buttons on your game controller in the Control Options menu before
your controller will work in Star Wars® Battlefront™. We recommend that you configure
the buttons in the main menu before you start a single player map or join a multiplayer game.

CH F-16 Fighter
When using the CH F-16 Fighter with the manufacturers driver (CHJOY98BETA), the game will
not recognize the HAT on this controller. We recommend that you check for updated drivers,
which may correct this issue.

Mouse Issues

Mouse Buttons
Star Wars® Battlefront™ natively supports 4 mouse buttons in the game. Mouse wheels
are supported.

Logitech Mouseware Driver Version 9.76

If you experience any issues when using a Logitech mouse, we recommend that you install
Logitech Mouseware driver version 9.76, which may correct these issues.

Logitech Wheel Mouse

When using a Logitech Wheel Mouse, the mouse wheel may not work in the game. If this occurs,
the scrolling size may need to be set to none in the Mouse Properties under the Buttons tab.
This option is located in the Logitech Control Panel. The web wheel should also be disabled by
setting Button 2 to middle button.

NOTE: This may deactivate the mouse wheel in other applications, such as Microsoft Internet
Explorer.

Custom Mouse Cursors

When using custom Windows cursors, such as the 3D cursor, the game cursor may be discolored
or corrupt in some areas on the game, especially in menus. Disabling this feature corrects this
issue.

Kensington Expert Mouse

When using the Kensington Expert Mouse with the PS/2 adaptor, the mouse may lose sensitivity
in the game. Adjusting the sensitivity in the Mouse Control Panel or Kensington Mouseware does
not correct this issue with this configuration. This does not occur when using the USB adaptor
with this device.

Kensington Mouseware 6.0

When using Kensington Mouseware 6.0, you may experience a momentary loss of control if the
Rest Reminder is enabled in Mouseware. When this feature is enabled, the pop-up application
may take focus from the game. If this occurs, you will need to press ALT-Tab to bring the focus
back to the game.

When using the default settings in Mouseware, you may be tasked out of the game when you
press a mouse button. This occurs because some of the buttons are mapped to default Windows
functions. If this occurs, you will need to change the button mapping in the Mouseware control
panel to correct this issue.

Keyboard Issues

Compact Keyboards
Users of compact keyboards, such as those found on laptop systems or some ergonomic
keyboards, may experience some problems using the default set of keyboard commands.

Keyboard Limitations
Some keyboards may have limitations in Star Wars® Battlefront™. You may be unable to use
multiple keys simultaneously. For example: If you are pressing two keys at the same time, only
one key may register the action that you chose.

Onboard Keyboard Shortcut Keys

We recommend that you do not use any of the onboard shortcut keys on your keyboard (such as
the Start Menu key) when playing the game. Doing so may have adverse affects on the game,
such as causing the game to close while you are playing a mission.

-10- DirectX Setup

Technical Overview of DirectX
DirectX is a library provided by Microsoft to run inside the operating system and provide
programmers with seamless access to all of the hardware features available today. The DirectX
platform provides an environment that allows developers to use a standardized format when
programming an application. This makes it easier to support a wide variety of different hardware
configurations. Prior to DirectX, developers were forced to write hardware-specific code (with a
specific driver for each type and brand of hardware).

NOTE: Some older systems may contain hardware that may not be fully DirectX compatible. For
optimum performance in Star Wars® Battlefront™, your system must fully support DirectX.
Fortunately, many manufacturers are releasing updated drivers. If you are unsure whether your
system will support DirectX, please contact the manufacturer of your system for more information.

WARNING: Once you have installed DirectX, it is not easily removed from your system.
NOTE: You must have Administrator rights to properly install DirectX on a Windows XP or Vista
system.

Where to Find DirectX 9.0c

Typically, DirectX 9.0c will be installed as part of the Star Wars® Battlefront™ installation
process if it is not already installed on your system. However, if you previously chose not to install
DirectX 9.0c, you can do so by following these steps:
 Insert the Star Wars® Battlefront™ Disc in the DVD-ROM drive.
 Select Help from the Star Wars® Battlefront™ launcher.
 Select Analyze your Computer.
 Select Install DirectX 9.0c and follow the on-screen prompts.

NOTE: Some programs that were made with earlier versions of DirectX may not work with
DirectX 9.0c.

Checking Your System for DirectX Support

After you have installed Star Wars® Battlefront™ and DirectX, you may want to determine
whether DirectX supports your computer hardware. To do this:
 Select Help from the Star Wars® Battlefront™ launcher.
 Select Analyze your Computer.
 Click on DirectX Diagnostics. This takes you to the DirectX Diagnostics screen.
 Click on the Display 1, Display 2, Sound 1, and Sound 2 tabs.
 If you are experiencing any problems while running Star Wars® Battlefront™, we
recommend that you test DirectDraw, Direct3D and DirectSound on their respective screens.
If any of these tests fail, please check for updated drivers for the hardware that failed the test.
If you continue to have problems after updating the drivers, we recommend that you contact
the hardware manufacturer of that device for further assistance.
NOTE: The Display 2 tab will only be available if you have two video cards in your system for a
multi-monitor support. The Sound 2 tab will only be available if you have two audio devices on
your system. This tab will be available if you are using USB Headsets.
