QUICK NOTES:
(1) If α and β are the roots of a quadratic polynomial ax2+bx+c, then, α + β = -b/a
(2) Sum of zeroes (α + β) = -coefficient of x /coefficient of x2 , then, αβ = c/a
(3) Product of zeroes (αβ) = constant term / coefficient of x2
(4) Identity: (i) (α² + β²) = (α + β) ² – 2αβ
(ii) (α3 + β3) = (α + β)3 - 3αβ (α + β)
(iii) (α4 + β4) = (α2 + β2)2 – 2(αβ)2
(iv) α – β = β – α = Square root [(α + β)2 - 4αβ]
(5) If two roots α and β are given, then the quadratic polynomial p(x) = k[x2 – (α + β)x +
αβ]
