Question 4
a) (i) Derive a relationship between S.I. and C.C.S. unit of work. [2]
(ii) A force acts on a body and displaces it by a distance S in a direction at an angle θ with the direction of force.

b) A half metre rod is pivoted at the centre with two weights of 20gf
and 12gf suspended at a perpendicular distance of 6 cm and 10 cm
from the pivot respectively as shown below. [3]
(i) Which of the two forces acting on the rigid rod causes clockwise
moment?
(ii) Is the rod in equilibrium?
(iii) The direction of 20 kgf force is reversed. What is the magnitude of the resultant moment of forces on the rod?

c) (i) While lifting a book vertically upwards from the table, your arm works as a lever. What class of lever is your
arm ? Draw a labelled diagram for the above. [2]

b) Calculate the amount of ice which is required to cool 150 g of water contained in a vessel of mass 100 g at
30°C, such that the final temperature of the mixture is 5°C. (Take specific heat capacity of material of vessel as 0.4
Jg-1°C-1, specific latent heat of fusion of ice = 336 J g-1, specific heat capacity of water = 4.2 Jg-1 °C-1). [3]

c) (i) Copy & connect the adjacent loop of conductor to a labelled external circuit
and state the polarity of loop facing you [2]
(ii) State two causes of energy loss in a transformer. [2]

c) A battery of e.m.f 15 V and internal resistance 3ohm is connected to two resistors 3 ohm and 6 ohm

iii. The current in 3 ohm resistor. iv. The current in 6 ohm resistor.

c) (i) What is meant by nuclear waste? [4]
