Week 1 Challenge : Surface Meshing of a Cylinder

AIM:
For the given model, Practice the same as shown in the videos. Set target length and
mesh the model. Write a detailed report on what you learned this week and mention
your meshing process.

 Target length = 3 mm
 Element type = Tria

Working on ANSA: PROCEEDURE

1.

The given model is downloaded from skill lync website and drag and dropped on workspace of ANSA
turned on

2. Now as discussed in tutorial,

we will do topo cleanup first then 2D meshing then

volumetric meshing

To move the model, use control+left mouse button

To set mouse controls,

3. As the model is cylinder but it appears that cross section area shape is hexagon. We need to
do some operations to get perfect shape

Double cons: the edge where 2 surfaces join

Need to do some Boolean operations to hide or get back surface

Or option is used to isolate by crossing on surface along opposite vertices

Cross edge must enabled to do above process

By clicking on OR option, and operatn to get back the hidden surfaces by clicking on any con edge of
hexagon but will show only surfaces having connect with the clicked con edge.

To get back right side hexagon of cylinder, click on neighbour al or all option

Not and I not to hide the surface but double click after I not will do isolate

Invert option will invert just the previous operation. Eg:

4. Topo operations discussion:

We have 2 hot points in hexagon n we can insert more

project hot point

Delete the hot point if not required and then release the operation

Or left or right mouse click do undo process of inserting hot point

To create hot point at middle of selected edges:

to measure there is a option
We can create and project the hotpoints using Parametric option and multi projection

5. Now to cut the cylinder through each edge of curved surface area of cylinder

Now inserting hot points at vertices of 2 cross section area of cylinder

Long press middle click of mouse and hot points got projectes on opposite face
6. Now creating lines or cuts to joint 2 opposite faces hot points

To delete any cut point then click on cut line and right click

7. MESHING:

Perimeter means green line and macros means surfaces bounded by so many perimeters

8. Now creating meshes of size 3 units (distance between 2 nodes) and thus creating nodes
first. Nodes will be created on each perimeter aparted by 3mm distance
then middle click to confirm the selection
Now doing spot mesh option from mesh generation option:

Selecting surfaces then middle click

Result:

finally we have 3092 triangular meshes and learned different ways of

meshing and prior operations required to do meshing as discussed above.

Conclusions:

We can measure the length of sides of mesh to justify our work and rectify errors if we get any.
to change the mesh type we can erase previous meshes.
