English
Read the passage and answer the questions that follow: (5x1=5)
1. In the obscure village of Chandpur, an annual competition known as the "Illumination Contest"
drew participants from distant towns. Each contestant was tasked with crafting an intricate lantern that not
only illuminated the dark but also embodied a unique story. This year, the reigning champion, Ila, had
decided to innovate by incorporating bioluminescent algae into her design. She believed that the ethereal
glow of the algae would symbolize the village’s connection to nature and its rich history of folklore.
However, as the competition day approached, Ila faced unforeseen challenges: a sudden drought had
caused the algae to dwindle, and her creativity began to falter.
2. On the eve of the contest, Ila ventured into the forest, hoping to find inspiration among the
ancient trees. There, she stumbled upon an elderly woman named Tara, weaving a tapestry with threads
that shimmered like the stars. Intrigued, Ila learned that the threads were spun from the silk of a rare moth
that only emerged during the full moon. The woman revealed that true illumination comes not from light
but from understanding one’s roots and sharing stories. Inspired by this revelation, Ila returned home with
renewed vigor, deciding to craft her lantern using the moth’s silk instead. As the contest commenced, she
realized that the essence of her creation lay not just in its light but in the tale it told–of nature, history, and
