Appendix 6

The document provides information about extra-curricular activities or student choice activities that are required as part of a student's program of study. It outlines that students must complete 28 hours of student choice activities in their first year, terms 3 and 4 to earn credit. The activities should develop the student's competencies and be approved by their study coach. Students will find their own activities and clients, complete assignments, and report on their progress in a digital portfolio for assessment. The activities must be outside of any regular jobs or hobbies and develop the competencies specified in the student's program of study.

Appendix 6: Extra-Curricular Activities or Student Choice Activity

An extra-curricular or student choice activity is directly connected to study coaching. You will be expected to look for a relevant assignment for each student choice activity and a commissioning client. School-based activities are also regularly organised, and sometimes involve input from students. Your study coach will keep you notified of any opportunities like this that may arise. The study coach will only notify the marks administration that you have successfully completed the PDP assessment when the PDP interview demonstrates that you have performed the student choice activity (28 hours in total during terms 3 and 4 of your first year) to a satisfactory standard and the assignments set have also been added correctly to the DPF (digital portfolio). Only when this has been established, will you be awarded the ECs for the PDP assessment.

The Object of Student Choice Activities

Students will be expected to work on their competencies at school, but also outside school too. These (inbreadth and/or in-depth) competencies are the ones specified by the students programme. Students may choose to focus on their weaker areas or reinforce their stronger areas. This will be agreed on with the study coach.

Procedure for Student Choice Activities

1. A students preferred student choice activity must be submitted to the PDP lecturer during workshop 2 (see form below). The student will do activities (so no sub-activities) totalling 28 hours. These 28 hours will not be hours that the student in question normally spends on a part-time job or hobby, since the student will have found his own reward for these hours (payment in the case of a part-time job, the pleasure obtained from doing a hobby), but may be extra hours that a student spends on the further development of a competency connected to a part-time job or hobby. 2. The student reports on his student choice activity in his reflection report for the period in question in the Digital portfolio, and will add his documentary evidence to the evidence list. 3. Once all components have been completed, these will be considered part of the PDP assessment.

Criteria for an Assignment in the Context of a Student Choice Activity

1. The 28 hours will be extra time spent by the student, over and above any time spent by the student without doing a student choice activity (see point B of the procedure); 2. The student will indicate the connection between the assignment and the competency (or competencies) chosen; 3. There will always be a client, who will also sign the proposal after completion of the assignment and, as such, indicate its positive assessment of the activity; 4. In the case of assignments for a students own company, the student will also be the client. However, external approval will be required in these circumstances; 5. The student will always indicate the telephone number and address of the (external) client.
