CCE is a continuous and uniform/systematic assessment of the proper development of children, in which
all features of development are widely estimated through various methods and devices.
“Meaning of Comprehensive – The 2nd term related with Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is
‘comprehensive’.The term ‘comprehensive’ suggests that evaluation of learners’ performance is follow
through in both scholastic and co-scholastic areas
Definition of CCE
The National Policy of Education (NPE 1986), which declares that Comprehensive and Continuous
Evaluation should include both scholastic and non-scholastic features of evaluation, spread over the
total duration of instructional time.
The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 also suggests that a school-based continuous and
comprehensive evaluation system be formed in order to :
Give a tool for recognition and for producing learners with greater skills.
Continuous and comprehensive evaluation was a process of assessment, authorised by the Right to
Education Act, of India in 2009 in Article 29(i).
As a part or role of this scheme, students' marks were replaced by grades which were evaluated by a
series of scholastic and Co-scholastic evaluations along with academics.
1st time CCE pattern was presented by CBSE for class 9 in 2009. And all over the country except Jammu
and Kashmir, CCE was presented on 1st April 2010.
To create a fair judgment and take timely decisions for learner’s growth, learning process, learning
speed, and learning environment.
Continuous evaluation distributes to detect weaknesses and allows the teacher to work out on certain
individual learners.
Through continuous assessments, students will be able to know their strengths and weaknesses.
CCE helps in identifying or diagnosing changes in attitudes and value systems in the children.
1) More Valid It is more valid than external examinations as it covers all the topics of the
syllabus assessment every month or biweekly.
2) Regular and Punctual Students will become more regular, and punctual. They will try to do
their home assignments and class work to the complete satisfaction of all concerned.
4) More reliable It is more reliable than external examinations because it covers all the topics
of the syllabus.
5) Motivational Value It motivates and encourages the pupils to work regularly and
thoroughly. They work through out the year and don't waste time.
7) No excessive strain Excessive strain on the students is relaxed. Moral values in students are
never allowed to wave.
8 ) Basis of scholarship It serves as a base for awarding scholarship and giving fee concessions
9) Positive results It objectives at finding out what the child knows, what he can do and what
intelligence he has got rather than at finding out what he does not know, what he cannot do and
what intelligence he has got.
4) Increase in number and intensity Some Bad things like bribery may increase in number
and intensity.
The word durable is used for a fully combined assessment of the process of learning.
The process of education is a continuous process influencing all sectors of the student and must
be in continuous evaluation.
Continuous assessment refers to the examination in which the student's studies and progresses
are recorded every month.
Comprehensive evaluation is understood as such a process that creates full and comprehensive
assessment of all Features of a student's cognitive, affective, and cognitive.
The valuing of the advances in qualifications covering all academic sectors and of all non -
academic practices can be termed as broad - based assessment.
