Physical Development
Mobility and Balance Exercises
Bodily movement plays a crucial role in everyday’s life of a child. As gross motor skills
develop day by day our bodies change accordingly. New or improved gross motor
skills allow us to explore more of our environment. More specically, gross motor skills
are essential for mobility, independence and overall health. Lack of Gross motor
skills can make it hard to do key tasks and can take a toll on your condence and
self-esteem.

Activity 1 Balance and Kick It !

Balance and Kick it activity makes physical activity fun. This brain-boosting exercise is
going to help in muscle development and tness. This activity helps in increasing
grasping skills, problem-solving skills, and social skills.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
• Improves eye-hand coordination
• Develop spatial awareness
• Helps in cognitive development
• Improves in balancing the target
Materials Required:
• Plastic balls(lightweight)
• Paper cups
• Colour tape
Procedure:
Paste the colour tape on the oor in a zig-zag pattern as shown in the reference
image, approximately 1-2 meters long. Place a paper cup upside down at each
corner of the zig-zag, with a plastic ball on top. The teacher will demonstrate the
activity by walking along the zig-zag line, kicking out the ball softly on each cup with
one foot while maintaining balance. Its time for the learners to take the part. The
learners will take turns walking along the zig-zag line, kicking the ball on the paper
cup with one foot as they reach each corner. They should ensure to stay on the line
throughout the activity.
To conclude, discuss their experiences and challenges. Encourage positive feedback
and offer praise for their efforts.

Activity 2 Roll the Dice

This activity is going to be one of the child's favourites. Rolling the big dice involves
shaking and releasing the dice which helps in gripping and balance. After rolling the
dice children will perform the same which is allotted for that particular number, which
is going to be great fun.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
3
• Increases counting and number knowledge
• Enhances eye-hand coordination
4 6 5 2
• Improves overall body development
Materials Required:
1
• Cardboard sheets
• Glue
Start
• Big size black sticker packet/ Round bindis / Black marker
• Colour tape
• Chalk piece
• Music
Procedure:
To create a dice with six faces, the teacher can use cardboard sheets. Ensure the
cardboard is xed securely to prevent the dice from falling apart during play. Once
the dice are assembled, add black dots or stickers to each face to represent the
numbers 1 to 6. In the absence of stickers, a marker can be used to draw the dots on
the dice.
Paste the colour tape on the oor same as the reference image. Write down the
actions for the respective number in each block with a chalk piece as given below,
1. Sit-ups
2. Tree pose
3. Squats
4. Dance
5. Jumping Jacks
6. Warrior Pose
The teacher will demonstrate the activity by rolling the dice and hopping from the
start block to the corresponding number on the oor. Upon reaching the desired
number, they will perform the action indicated in that block. The teacher can
conclude the activity by explaining the benets of these exercises for maintaining a
healthy and energetic lifestyle.
Note: If the time permits or the child is very enthusiastic to do the activity once again,
then rolling the dice can be done once again. It is completely the choice of the
teacher.

6
Manual and Balance Activities
Fine motor activities help to improve physical and mental awareness. The child needs
to use both small joints and muscles, it also stimulates the brain to learn new skills and
activates their cognitive skills such as problem-solving, memorizing etc.

Activity 1 Tweeze… Tweeze… Tweezer

The use of tongs or tweezers are an ideal pre-writing exercises to develop strength,
control and coordination in the hands and ngers. This fun lled activity also helps the
child to learn the pre math concepts.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
• Develops ne motor skills
• Enhances the ability of categorization
• Develops problem-solving skills
• Encourage persistence and patience
Materials Required:
• Small items with distinct characteristics like buttons, beads, small
blocks(different sized/shaped/coloured)
• Kitchen safe tongs/tweezers
• Sorting trays or containers labelled by category (e. g colours, shapes, sizes)
Procedure:
Explain the children that they will be using tweezers to sort various small items into
different containers/categories. Demonstrate how to use the tweezers, focusing on
gripping and releasing items. Call out a child and ask him to pick a small item in a
mixed container using the tweezers. Guide them to place the item into the
appropriate sorting tray based on its category (We can sort them by colour, shape, or
size. It’s like a puzzle! i.e teacher’s choice). Continue the same until all items are
sorted. Review the sorted items with the children discussing how the items were
grouped. Praise their efforts and correct any sorting mistakes gently.

7
Activity 2 Drop the ball

This activity might seem like child's play, but it's a vital ne motor skill that lays the
foundation for numerous activities throughout the life. As children master this
seemingly simple task, they're rening their eye-hand coordination. It's both
educational and fun, making it an engaging way for kids to develop a range of
important skills.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
• Develop problem-solving skills and spatial awareness
• Enhances ne motor skills
• Provides a perceptual illusion
• Helps in developing concentration, persistence and teamwork
Material Required:
• Carton box/Cardboard base
• Cardboard cutter
• 4 -5 Different sized plastic balls
Procedure:
For this activity, take a large cardboard sheet or carton box. On the cardboard, draw
and cut holes of different sizes and locations. Make sure some holes are larger and
easier, while others are smaller and more challenging. Now, call two children to hold
the carton box and explain their goal that they have to drop a ball into one of the
holes. Place 4-5 balls of different sizes in the box. Encourage collaboration and
communication as the children work together to set up the activity and support each
other. Guide them toward their goal or technique. Acknowledge each child's efforts
and emphasize the importance of practice and persistence.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Activities on Self Help Skills
Being kind and basic safety rules plays a vital role in child's development. These
activities build condence, promote independence, and encourage positive social
interactions. Ultimately, these skills form a strong foundation for responsible and
empathetic behaviour as they grow.

Activity 1 Courtesy Code

Being polite is like being a friend to everyone. It’s like saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you,’
sharing your toys, and being gentle with others. When we’re polite, everyone feels
happy and safe. Let’s be kind and polite to each other! This act of kindness makes us
good people. It is always nice to be humble, gentle, and courteous as a person
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
• Understand the importance of courtesy
• Develop positive attitude
• Emphasizes the right social behaviour
• Improves language skills
Materials Required:
• A stage setup
• A toy mike
Procedure: Use a story or scenario to explain, what is courtesy? Courtesy is about
being polite and respectful in our interactions with others. This behaviour contributes
to a harmonious and positive environment for everyone. Present a few courtesy
codes to the students:
• One should always give respect and take respect.
• One should never pass any negative comment or bully any person, especially girls
and women.
• One should always respect parents, grandparents, relatives and friends.
• Always be kind at heart and help others in need.
Now, invite the learners to take turns speaking on the stage, holding the toy
microphone. Encourage them to share their understanding of the courtesy codes or
to provide personal examples of courteous behaviour. After each presentation, offer
positive feedback and applause.

Activity 2 Home Safety Rules

Creating a safe home environment is a top priority for most of us. We have put
together the most useful and effective home safety measures to prevent accidents
and injuries. The home safety rules are expected to be followed by everyone, not just
by kids.

Learning Objectives and outcomes:

• Understand the importance of home safety
• Recognise potential risks in talking improper medicines
• Recognise that kitchen and balcony are not safe places to play
Always keep the oor dry and tidy:
A wet oor can be very dangerous. Most of the accidents happen on wet oors.
Make children understand the level of riskiness involved if the oors are wet. Ask them
to go slowly and carefully on wet oors, especially washrooms.
While using water or any kind of liquids ask them to be cautious
without spilling them on oor. If spilled by chance, it has to be
informed immediately. Let them know that small toys or objects
shouldn't be thrown or left on oor. Explain the consequences if a
person gets hurt by slipping on wet oor or a cluttered oor.
Don't eat medicines without asking:
Start the conversation by asking children, how many of them like the taste of
medicines. How many of them nd it interesting and want to repeat the same when
their elders take medicines? Can we take any medicine without are
parents supervision? Explain, children often nd medicines amusing
and are fond of the taste. So explain them the importance of
medicines. Let them know how a medicine can cure a disease and
at the same time can cause serious damage if taken improperly.
Don't play in kitchen:
Ask children whether playing in kitchen is safe or not. Let them know
that kitchen is not a place for kids. Explain them that they shouldn't
enter kitchen in elder's absence. As we get to see many appliances
that are not safe for children. Explain them the consequences they
might end up in when wrong usage of appliances is done.
Don't lean over the balcony:
Start this with a story of your choice where a child fell out of the balcony while playing
in the balcony. After narrating the story ask them to follow these rules.
• Never lean over, sit or climb on the balcony wall or railing.
• Never try to pass items to someone on another balcony.
• Never try to climb onto another balcony from your balcony.
End the session by having a little recap on home safety rules. Ask the
children what they have understood from today's session. Ask them to
share their experience with their parents and elders at home.
