The Ultimate
Guide on....

How to
Read People
Like a Book
Eye contact is a strong indicator of
honesty and confidence. People
who avoid eye contact may be
hiding something or may lack
confidence.
Normal is 50% eye contact while
talking and 70% while listening!

Example: A student who avoids eye

contact with their teacher may be
lying about not having done their
homework.

emotions and attitudes. Standing with arms and legs
crossed may indicate that the person is closed off or
uncomfortable.

legs crossed during an interview may

emotions, such as anger, enthusiasm, or boredom.
Clenched fists may indicate anger or tension.

person's emotions. Smiling and frowning are two
common expressions that can convey happiness
and sadness, respectively.

A person who smiles when they are happy and

frowns when they are sad.
Vocal pitch, or the highness or
lowness of a person's voice, can
reveal their emotional state. A higher
pitch may indicate excitement or
fear, while a lower pitch may
indicate calmness or authority.

Example: If a person's voice becomes

higher pitched when they are telling a
story, it may indicate that they are excited
or enthusiastic about the topic.
7. Fidgeting or fiddling may indicate anxiety or
dishonesty. Someone who is fidgeting may be
feeling nervous or may be trying to distract from
their true intentions.

A person who is fidgeting during a conversation

may be feeling anxious or may be hiding something.

8. Touching the face or neck may indicate

discomfort or a lack of confidence. If someone is
constantly touching their face or neck, it may be a
sign that they are feeling self-conscious or uncertain

neck during a job interview may be feeling
self-conscious or uncertain.

9. Feet and leg position can reveal a person's
intentions. If someone's feet are pointed towards an
exit, it may indicate that they want to leave.

A person who is sitting in a meeting with their feet

pointed towards the door may be anxious to leave.

10. Mirroring is when one person copies the body

language of another. This can indicate rapport or
