that you may have along the way. Have fun!

Materials You Will Need:

Crochet hook size: G/4mm
Worsted weight yarn: Gray, white, and black
Yarn needle
One pair of 12 mm safety eyes (also called shank back eyes; they are sold at Etsy, Walmart, your local
craft store, Amazon, ebay, etc.)
Note: The safety eyes are highly recommended, but they can be substituted with black buttons or yarn
if you prefer
Polyester fiber fill stuffing
Straight pins, for holding shark belly in place as you sew it on (optional)
Black sewing thread and needle

Final measurement for the finished shark will be about 9 inches long and 5 inches tall.

Abbreviations:
ch(s) – chain/chains
sc – single crochet
sts – stitches
dec – sc decrease st*

*Single crochet decrease stitch explanation:

Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 2 loops on
the hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 3
loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the loop of yarn through all 3 loops on the hook.

Shark's Body
With gray yarn,
Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts)

R20: (Sc 10, dec 1), 3 times. (33 sts)
Here, begin firmly stuffing the head, pushing the stuffing into the very tip of the shark's nose. Then,
place 12 mm eyes into either side of the head, between R11 and R12. They should be about 17 sts apart
across the bottom of the head. (If you lay the shark body flat, the eyes should be on top of each other.)
Secure by firmly pushing the washers onto the backs of the eyes.
R21: Sc 33.
R22: (Sc 9, dec 1), 3 times. (30 sts)
R23: Sc 30.
R24: (Sc 8, dec 1), 3 times. (27 sts)

R32: Sc 15.
R33: (Sc 3, dec 1), 3 times. (12 sts)
R34: Sc 12.
Stuff firmly before decreasing further.
R35: (Sc 2, dec 1), 3 times. (9 sts)
R36-39: Sc 9. (4 total rows)
Here, finish stuffing the body firmly. Using a wooden stuffing tool, make sure the body is evenly and
firmly stuffed throughout.
R40: Dec 4.

Now, fasten off and use yarn tail to sew the small opening closed. Weave in end. Your shark body will
now look as pictured above.

Shark Belly
With white yarn,
R1: Ch 3, turn, 2 sc in each 2 chains. (4 sts)
R2: Ch 1, turn, (sc 1, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (6 sts)
R3: Ch 1, turn, (sc 2, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (8 sts)
R4: Ch 1, turn, (sc 3, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (10 sts)
R5: Ch 1, turn, (sc 4, 2 sc in next sc), 2 times. (12 sts)
R6: Ch 1, turn, (sc 5, 2 sc in next sc), 2 times. (14 sts)
R7: Ch 1, turn, (sc 6, 2 sc in next sc), 2 times. (16 sts)
R8: Ch 1, turn, (sc 7, 2 sc in next sc), 2 times. (18 sts)
R9: Ch 1, turn, sc 18.
R10-12: Repeat R9. (3 total rows)
Note: Do not ch 1 in any of the following rounds, unless otherwise noted.
R13: Turn, sc 17.
R14: Turn, sc 16.
R15: Turn, sc 15.
R16: Turn, sc 14.
R17: Turn, sc 13.
R18: Turn, sc 12.
R19: Turn, sc 11.
R20: Turn, sc 10.
R21: Turn, sc 9.
R22: Turn, sc 8.
R23: Turn, sc 7.
R24: Turn, sc 6.
R25: Turn, sc 5.
R26: Turn, sc 4.
R27: Ch 1, turn, sc 4.
R28: Turn, sc 3.
R29: Ch 1, turn, sc 3.
R30-32: Repeat R29. (3 total rows)
R33: Turn, sc 2.

Now, without turning, single crochet a border all the way around the belly you just made – up the one
side, across the top, and down the other side. Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail that is at least 60 inches
long. When finished, your shark belly will look like the above picture.

Position this white belly onto the bottom of the shark's body, starting at R4, and extending all the way
to the back tip of the body. Now, line up the belly so that there are 2 sts between the eye and the start of
the white belly on either side.

Use straight pins to hold the belly in place

while you sew it on. With your yarn needle,
sew the belly onto the shark. Sew from the top:
insert your needle down through the top of the
belly and up through the white a few stitches
over. Continue all the way around the belly a
few times until there are no more loose
sections. Remove the straight pins as you go.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Side Fins (make 2)

With gray yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (6 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next), 3 times. (9 sts)
R4: Sc 8, 2 sc in next. (10 sts)
R5-8: Sc 10. (4 total rows)
R9: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next sc), 2 times. (12 sts)
R10: Sc 12.
R11: (Sc 5, 2 sc in next sc), 2 times. (14 sts)

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing to body. Do not stuff. For each fin, count 7 sts back from the
eyes, and then sew the fins to the body just above where the white belly starts. Weave in end.
Top Fin
With gray yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (6 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next), 3 times. (9 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next), 3 times. (12 sts)
R5-9: Sc 12. (5 total rows)

Fasten off. Using your crochet hook or stuffing tool, push out the very top of this fin, and bend it
backward so it has a slight curve. Leave long tail for sewing.
Do not stuff. Sew to very top of the body, starting at R23 (or
counting back 11 sts from the eyes). Also, count the number
of stitches between the top fin and side fins on both sides to
make sure it is even. The top fin should be just a little further
back on the body than the side fins.

Back Fin Parts (make 2)

With gray yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (6 sts)
R3: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next), 2 times. (8 sts)
R4: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next), 3 times, sc 2. (11 sts)
R5-7: Sc 11. (3 total rows)
R8: (Sc 1, dec 1), 5 times.

Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. Sew each back fin at an angle to the back of the shark's body
(as pictured below).

Gills
Take a long strand of black yarn, thread it
onto your yarn needle and sew to the body
just in front of the side fin. Weave in ends.
Do the same on the other side of the body.

Mouth
Take another black strand of yarn and
with your yarn needle, sew on a mouth
between R6 and R7 of the belly that is
about 7 sts wide. Weave in black yarn
ends.

Now, take a sewing needle and black

thread and do several stitches on either
side of each gill to hold them in place. Weave in your thread ends. Do the same on either side of the
shark's mouth.

And there you go, you are done! Thank you so much for joining me in making a shark! Enjoy!
