Course Description:
Section A Sequences, Bounded Sequence, Monotonic Sequence, Limit of Sequence,
Convergent and Divergent Sequence, Series, Test for Convergence, Power Series,
Radius of Convergence, Limit, Continuity and Differentiability (Analytic
Definitions with simple examples); Rolle’s Theorem (Applications), Mean Value
Theorem (Applications) and Taylor’s Theorem (Applications); Successive
Differentiation: Leibnitz’ Theorem (without proof).
Section B Review of Vectors, Cylinders and Quadric Surfaces, Vector Functions of One
Variable and their Derivatives, Partial Derivatives: Chain Rule, Exact
Differentials, Gradient, Directional Derivative, Tangent Planes and Normals,
Maxima and Minima (Two Variables) including Lagrange’s Multipliers,
Asymptotes and Curve Tracing (Cartesian and Polar Form).
Section C Reduction Formulae, Multiple Integrals, Applications to Multiple Integrals to find
Length, Area, Surface Area, Volume, Surface Area of Revolution, Improper
Integral.

Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Define limit, infinite series and sequences of partial sum of an infinite series,
Convergence and Divergence of an infinite series.
2. Relate the limit of a function at a point to the limit of a sequence at that point and tell
when a function will fail to have a limit at a point.
3. Define monotonic functions and find a connection between monotonicity of a function
and derivative of a function.
4. Demonstrate the concept of Divergence, Curl, Green’s and Stokes’s Theorem.

Evaluation Scheme:
In this course (paper), a student will be evaluated out of 100 marks. Out of which 60 marks would
be for end semester examination; and 40 marks would be of continuous assessment (two periodical
tests and two assignments).
