PAPER 2 4028/2
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
Write your name, Centre number and candidate number in the spaces provided on the
answer paper/answer booklet.
Answer all questions in Section A and any three questions from Section B.
All working must be clearly shown. It should be done on the same sheet as the rest of the
answer.
Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.
If the degree of accuracy is not specified in the question and if the answer is not exact, the
answer should be given to three significant figures. Answers in degrees should be given to
one decimal place.
The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the end of each question or part question.
Mathematical tables or electronic calculators may be used to evaluate explicit numerical
expressions.
1. (a) Find the Highest Common Factor (HCF) of 96 and 120 [3]
(b) On a certain day the temperature rose -5°C to +27°C.
Calculate the rise in temperature. [2]
(c) If r = 4,2 × 105 and q = 7 × 10-3, evaluate qr.
Leave the answer in standard form. [2]
(d) Simplify 3√7 + √14 × √2
Leave the answer in surd form [2]
(ii) 𝐴𝐵 [2]
𝑥−1 6
(c) The matrix ( ) is singular.

3. (a) The selling price of a certain model of a mobile phone is $2 760, 00 including a Value
Added Tax (VAT) of 15%.
(i) Calculate the price of the mobile phone excluding Value Added Tax. [2]
(ii) The exchange rate of Zimbabwean dollars ZWL($) to Botswana Pula (P) on a certain
day was ZWL$ 9,00 TO 1 Pula.
Find the cost of the mobile phone in Pula [2]
(iii) A sales person is paid 3,5% commission for each same model of mobile phone sold.
Calculate the total commission the sales person gets when 23 such mobile phones are
sold. [3]
4.
The diagram shows an athletics filed. It is made up of a rectangle ABCDE and two semi-circles
each of radius 31,8m.
AB = 100m.
(In this question take π to be 3,142)
(a) Calculate
(i) length of arc BCD, [2]
(ii) perimeter of the athletics field, [2]
(iii) total area of the athletics field to the nearest m2, [3]
(iv) cost of covering the whole athletics field with grass, if it costs $620 /m2. [2]
(b) On a map the length AB is represented by a line 4cm long.
Find the scale used to draw the athletics field in the form 1: n, where n is an integer. [2]
3𝑥−5
(b) The length of a regular hexagon is 𝑐𝑚.

A particle moves such that the velocity, v m/s after t seconds is given by v = t2 – 5t +10.
8. The table gives a frequency of marks obtained in a mathematics test by a class of 100 learners.
Mark 0 ≤ 𝑥 < 10 10 ≤ 𝑥 < 20 20 ≤ 𝑥 < 30 30 ≤ 𝑥 < 40 40 ≤ 𝑥 < 50
Frequency 7 13 31 37 12
9. A dress maker specialises in making trousers and skirts for school uniforms. He has 18m of
cloth. Let x be the number of trousers and y the number of skirts produced.
(a) Each skirt requires 0.5m of cloth and a pair of trouser requires 0.75m of cloth. Form an
inequality in x and y and show that it reduces to 2𝑦 + 3𝑥 ≤ 72. [2]
(b) To meet the demand of customers the dress maker should make at least 6 pairs of trousers
and at least 10 skirts. Write down two inequalities that satisfy these conditions. [2]
(c) The number of skirts should be more than the number of trousers. Form another inequality
that satisfies this condition. [1]
(d) Point (x; y) satisfies all the conditions given. Show by shading the unwanted region the
regions in which (x; y) lies. Use a scale of 2cm to represent 5 units in both axes for
0 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 30 and 0 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 40. [5]
(e) Each skirt makes a profit of $120 and each pair of trousers makes a profit of $300. Calculate
the maximum possible profit the dress maker can get. [2]
