INTRODUCTION
Dynamic traffic signal control system: Under this module, the
traffic signal control system takes into account the vehicle demand
volume using the road-embedded detector and adjusts the green light
accordingly. In case of jammed roads, it adjusts the timings accordingly
to step UP the traffic flows.
This project is about the use of edge inference for counting number
of cars from all directions on a traffic light to decide the red and green
light duration.
Applying AI to traffic signal timing is the next step in a global
trend to analyze mobile data from vehicles and apply it to urban
transportation management. The goal is to reduce vehicle idling time,
improve safety, and, in the process, cut greenhouse gas emissions
(GHG)
Traffic congestion and road safety are critical challenges in urban
areas. The AI – powered traffic light system aims to optimize traffic
flow and enhance road safety by using artificial intelligence to
dynamically manage traffic signals based on real – time data. This
project combines hardware components with AI algorithms to create a
responsive and efficient traffic management system.
AI systems can analyze large amounts of data from sensors,
cameras, and other sources in seconds and adjust the traffic controller in
real time. This results in faster reactions, less waiting time, and reduced
delays for road users.

OBJECTIVES
The objective of a traffic light controller using Arduino is to
efficiently and effectively regulate the flow of vehicles at intersections.
The main objective of this activity was to give students knowledge about
traffic lights, safety rules and all road signals. Practical demonstration
about the basic road rules, the do's and don’ts was conducted.
It is a system that promotes an efficient and effective way to
manage urban traffic, improving motorists' driving experience while
reducing traffic's negative impacts on the environment and quality of
life. This smart traffic system uses advanced technology to manage the
traffic flow efficiently.
Incident Response – Quick response to traffic incidents, setting up
diversions and coordinating with emergency services to maintain safety
and order. Site Safety Compliance – Ensuring all traffic control activities
comply with the local road rules and safety regulations to prevent
accidents and incidents.
1. To develop a smart traffic light system capable of real – time
decision making.

2. To reduce traffic congestion and improve vehicle movement

efficiency.

3. To incorporate AI predictive analytics and adaptive traffic control.

4. To enhance pedestrian safety and reduce accident risks.

2. Implemented image enhancement techniques for low – light
conditions.

3. Designed scalable algorithms for multi – intersection coordination.

FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS
1. Vehicle – to Infrastructure (V2I) Communication : Integrating
with connected vehicle for seamless traffic management.

2. Renewable Energy Integration : Using solar power to make the

system energy – efficient.

3. Advanced AI Models : Implementing deep learning for improved

traffic prediction.

4. IoT Integration : Enabling remote monitoring and control of

traffic signals.

CONCLUSION
The AI – powered traffic light system demonstrates the potential of
combining technology and artificial intelligence to address urban traffic
challenges. By leveraging real – time data and predictive analytics, this
system not only optimizes traffic flow bus also enhances road safety for
both vehicles and pedestrians. With further advancements, this solution
can be cornerstone of smart city initiatives.
In most English-speaking countries, traffic lights usually change in
this order: Red light on: This tells drivers to stop. Green light on: This
means the driver can start driving or keep driving. Yellow light on: This
tells drivers to stop when it is safe to, because the light is about to turn
red.
Smart traffic lights can help to increase safety on city streets by
reducing driver frustration that can lead to distracted or aggressive
driving, by adapting signaling to accommodate difficult weather
conditions, and by better managing the flow of vehicles, pedestrians and
bicycles through intersections.
Proposed system will have wider future scope that user can get
traffic information on mobile phone. Smart traffic light systems is better
Conventional traffic light systems because it is capable of handling
variable flow of traffic through the junction and reduces waiting time at
junction.
