Spain:
The Holy
Week
The Holy Week is an important religious festival in Spain, more
important than Christmas. It is in March or April, in the spring. It
begins with Palm Sunday, and one of the most important days is Good
Friday, which is the day the Romans killed Jesus Christ in Jerusalem,
about two thousand years ago. Two days later, on Easter Sunday,
Christians believe that Jesus Christ returned to life.
Good Friday and Easter Monday are also holidays in the United Kingdom. Some people go to
church at Easter Monday and have a meal with their families. Children decorate and eat
chocolate eggs, and people give each other chicks. The chicks and eggs are symbols of new
life.
