History/Nature (Uncommon): On the rare occasions that call upon divine forces to battle it.
when it has been defeated, the tarrasque simply slides
into the earth to restore itself and continue its rampage;
travelers from the furthest reaches of the Underdark
report that the decades in which it is gentler upon the
surface are more ruinous for those below.
Arcana/History (Esoteric): The tarrasque’s rhythms are
mysterious, but it does seem to be agitated from its
great slumber by major shifts in the nature of magic or
forces of alignment in the Prime Material; any great
undertaking of magic carries with it the risk of rousing
the beast below.
Arcana/Nature (Undiscovered): The tarrasque has three
vast stomachs; first a great crucible of burning, churning
spikes, then a sea of acid strong enough to dissolve even
magic and souls, and finally a chamber that perfectly
disintegrates all those things thought to be wholly and
fundamentally indestructible.
It gains sustenance from all that is created or
precious to gods or mortals; artifacts and even
lesser deities have met their end in this gauntlet of
annihilation.
History/Religion (Undiscovered): In the final
days of war between the gods and the
elemental primordials from whom they
wrested the world, a seed was planted
to unmake all the gods’ workings, to
curse the Prime Material and ensure
that its conquerors would have no joy
of their spoils.
For eons this mote of hatred
grew in the crushing depths
of stone and fire, concealed
by the Art of those ancient
princes until it had grown too
fearsome for even the gods
to stand before.

The Arnstone
When the tarrasque’s appetite is sated, it sinks into the
earth, drifting until it reaches a node of elemental
power. There, wholly or partially encased in the stone, it
enters a deep sleep called the Arnstone that lasts
up to several decades.
If defeated before its appetite is sated, the tarrasque
does the same, but its sleep is less restful, often
awakening several times throughout its hibernation for
short periods to devour small settlements in the
Underdark.
If attacked while sleeping, it takes the tarrasque 1d4
rounds to rouse itself, and returns immediately to sleep
once it has dealt with the threat, often simply by rolling
over and causing a cavern collapse.
Omens of the Tarrasque
Clouds refuse to form in the sky above the
tarrasque’s resting place.
Months of earthquakes presage the tarrasque’s
emergence, growing in intensity.
Wild animals flee the area where it will surface.
Treasure
Harvest. Adamant blood, all-consuming acid, chaos-
crystal horn intrusions, diamond eye-membrane, half-
digested artifacts, oily slaver, roar-echoes, spell-turning

the tarrasque cannot escape by any means, and cannot
be returned to life until the tarrasque’s slow digestion
has run its course, taking 2d20 years, or until the
tarrasque is slain.
A creature in one of the stomachs can use 30 feet
of movement to attempt a DC 18 Strength (Athletics)
check, moving to an adjacent stomach on a success.
