Various Legal Formalities for Starting a


business

1.Obtain DIN online from Ministry of Corporate Affairs(MCH)


portal
2.Obtain digital signature certificate online from private
agency authorised by the MCA
~ Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) are the digital
equivalent (that is electronic format) of physical or paper
certificates. Few Examples of physical certificates are
drivers' licenses, passports or membership cards.

3. Reserve the company name online with the Registrar of


Companies(ROC)

4. Stamp the company documents at the State Treasury or


authorised bank
5. Get Certificate of Incorporation(COI) from the Registrar
of Companies, Ministry Corporate Affairs
~ A certificate of incorporation is a legal document/license
relating to the formation of a
company or corporation.

6. Make a seal
~ A company seal is an official seal used by a company.
Company seals were predominantly used by companies in
common law jurisdictions.

7. Obtain Permanent Account Number(PAN) from an


authorised franchise or agent appointed by the National
Securities
Depository Ltd.(NSDL) or the Unit Trust of India( UT)
Investors Services Ltd., as outsourced by the Income lax
Department.
8. Obtain a Tax Account Number (TAN) for income taxes
deducted at source from the Assessing Office in the
Mumbai Income Tax Department.

9. Register with the office of Inspector, shops and


Establishment Act

10. Register for VAT at the Commercial Tax Office

11. Register for Professional Tax at the Professional Tax


Office

12. Register with Employees Provident Fund Organization

13. Register for medical insurance at the regional office or


the employees State Insurance Corporation.
