EL FILIBUSTERISMO MODULE

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Identify and explain the role of youth in nation building
based on the context of El Filibusterismo.
2. Compare and contrast the Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo,
3. Explain the importance of the writings of Rizal to the

After Jose Rizal and his family experienced the negative effects of his first book, Noli
Me Tangere, he wrote the sequel which is EL FILIBUSTERISMO. He accounted the social
injustices in the Philippines during the Spanish period. This angered those who were in power
during those days- specifically the friars.
El Filibusterismo is derived from the term “ Filibustero”. Jose Rizal said to his friend
Ferdinand Blumentritt that “ the word Filubustero is little known in the Philippines…. I heard for
the first time when the tragic execution of the GOMBURZA took place. Our father forbade us to
utter it.”

QUESTION: Why do you think that the father of Rizal forbade them to utter the word “
Filibustero”.
