Configuration

A FactoryTalk Alarm and Event (FTAE) Tag Based server is set up in the area FTAE_Svr.

Two FTAE Alarm summary objects are placed on a display with all parameters exactly the same, one
of the FTAE alarm summary objects has VBA code attached to it and the other has no code attached
to it, this is for comparison of the objects behaviour when alarms come in.
The alarm trigger buttons trigger banks of 50 digital alarms. Buttons Dig1-49 and button Dig100-149
have one alarm each at a severity of 900 so that the alarm sort can be checked.

On the display is a NumericDisplay that is used to trigger the VBA code on change, this
NumericDisplay’s value is derived from the FTAE function

AE_InAlmUnackedCount(“/FTAE_Svr::*”) which gives a count of all the In alarm and


Unacknowledged alarms from the FTAE Tag Server in the Area FTAE_Svr.

The VBA code utilises two filters these are No Alarms and All Alarms, these have to be created in the
Alarm and Event Summary Properties under the Display Filters tab.

The alarm summary was scrolled down the list and an alarm selected in both the VBA code alarm
summary and the alarm summary with no VBA code. 49 alarms were triggered with one at severity
900 and the others at severity 500. The alarm summary without the VBA code placed the previously
selected alarm at the top of the alarm banner. The alarm summary with the VBA code removed the
selection from the alarm list and placed the alarms in the correct sort order.
