IKEA is born
Ingvar Kamprad was / were the founder of the furniture company IKEA.
He was / were born in 1926 in Sweden. His parents wasn't / weren't rich - they was / were
farmers and the family home was / were near a small village in the south of Sweden.
Ingvar wasn't / weren't interested in farming. He started IKEA in his uncle's kitchen in 1943.
His first products was / were pencils and other small items. There wasn't / weren't any IKEA
stores before 1958 - it was / were only possible to buy things from IKEA by mail. The first
IKEA store was / were in Sweden, but now there Lare stores around the world.

There weren't any cash machines (sometimes called “cashpoints”) until the 1960s. When
people wanted (want) to take out money from their bank, they usually ________ (visit) the

Banks ________ (open) during the week and on Saturday mornings. This was a problem if

1965. Today there are over two million cash machines around the world.
