The Likha Award for Architecture is a prestigious honor in the Philippines, conferred by the United Architects of
the Philippines (UAP). It is the highest recognition the UAP bestows on architects, recognizing outstanding
contributions to the field of architecture, as well as achievements that enhance the profession’s prestige,
promote public understanding of architecture, and contribute to national development.
Likha Gold Medal Award is the highest distinction to be bestowed upon a fellow, who has adhered
to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct, practiced in excellence and prestige the
architectural profession, has rendered distinguished contribution and service to the UAP, and has performed
exceptional achievements and active participation in the concern of the community, government and
country
Arch. Felipe Marcelo Mendoza (1917-2000) graduated from the Mapua Institute of
Technology (MIT), where he later taught, from 1946-1965. Mendoza would later
teach at the University of the Philippines, but his stint would last only two years.
Mendoza served two terms as president of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP),where he would draft
the Architect’s National Code and the UAP General Conditions. Mendoza also served as president of the
Philippine Institute of Architects in 1965, the United Technological Organizations of the Philippines in 1965,
and the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations in 1981. Medoza was also active with the Architects’
Regional Council Asia. Mendoza received the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Award from the City of Manila
in 1976, and the first recipient of the UAP Likha Award and Gold Medal of Merit in 1982.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Filipino: Sentrong Pangkultura ng Pilipinas, or
CCP) is a government-owned and controlled corporation established to preserve, develop and promote arts
and culture in the Philippines. The CCP was established through Executive Order No. 30 s. 1966 by President
Ferdinand Marcos. Although an independent institution of the Philippine government, it receives an annual
subsidy and is placed under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts for purposes of policy
coordination. The CCP is headed by an 11-member Board of Trustees, currently headed by Chairperson
Margarita Moran-Floirendo. Its current president is Arsenio Lizaso.
From 1972, the CCP administered the Order of the National Artists, which is the highest recognition the
government of the Philippines gives to individuals who made significant contributions to the development of
arts in the country. The Order was established in 1972 after the death of renowned painter Fernando
Amorsolo, through the auspices of Proclamation No. 1001.[19] A year later, the Board of Trustees of the
center was designated as the National Artists Award Committee.[20] Today, the CCP administers the Order in
conjunction with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Philippines (UAP) in 1990. This award recognized the BSP's exceptional architectural contributions, specifically
the design and construction of its facilities across the Philippines.

Established on July 3, 1993, under the New Central Bank Act (Republic Act No. 7653), it succeeded the Central
Bank of the Philippines (established in 1949) as part of financial reforms. The BSP operates independently
from the government, ensuring impartial implementation of monetary policies. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas
(BSP) plays a vital role in maintaining the country's economic stability through various functions. It implements
monetary policy to manage inflation and ensure price stability by using tools such as interest rates and reserve
requirements to regulate money supply and demand. The BSP is also responsible for currency issuance,
ensuring an adequate supply of secure Philippine banknotes and coins to support the economy.
In addition, it supervises banks and financial institutions, enforcing regulations to maintain stability and
protect depositors. The BSP oversees foreign exchange management, stabilizing the peso exchange rate by
monitoring currency transactions and managing the country's reserves. It also facilitates payment systems by
ensuring efficient and secure financial transactions essential for economic activities. Lastly, the BSP conducts
research and data analysis to study economic conditions, guiding policy decisions and enhancing public
understanding of financial issues.

Manuel T. Mañosa (1930–2019) was a renowned Filipino architect celebrated for his commitment to designing

Previously, Arch. Recto was also bestowed the 20008 PFPA Professional Excellence Award by the Philippine
Federation of professional Associations which is affiliated with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
He was chosen from among nominees of 43 professional organizations representing more than one million
registered professionals in the country. Earlier, he was presented the 1998 Outstanding Architect of the Year
Award by the PRC and 1999 “Araw ng Maynila” Mayor’s Award of Honor for Art and Culture.
Arch. Recto was also bestowed the 2012 UPAA Distinguished Alumni Award in the field of Architecture and the
1999 UPAA Professional Award in Architecture. In 2000, the Philip H. Recto Design Excellence Award was
established at the UP College of Architecture in order to recognize outstanding thesis. To date, it has 176
awardees, 33 of whom were facilitated to undergo a 2-year post baccalaureate training at prestigious
architectural firms in Singapore, Hongkong and Shenzhen, China.
At present, he is the Principal of Philip H. Recto Architects, responsible for many landmark buildings in the
country such as the 61-story Corporate Finance Plaza and the 54-story One Corporate Centre in Ortigas
Center, the One San Miguel Avenue office building and The Avantgarde Residence in Ortigas Center, the 20-
story De La Salle University-Br. Andrew Gonzales Hall in Manila, St. Paul College in Pasig, the Manuel M. Lopez
Development Center (now known as First Pacific Leadership Academy) in Antipolo City, the PNOC head office
bldg.. in BGC and many others.

NESTOR S. MAGIO
Architect Nesto S. Mangio is the President and CEO of Central Country Estate, Inc., Chairman of N.S. Mangio
Construction and Development Corporation, McDonald’s Lakeshore and Hotel Gracelane in San Fernando,
Pampanga, and the Principal Architect of N.S. Mangio Architects & Associates. He is also designated as
Chairman Emeritus of the soon to rise The Lakeshore Medical Center and The Lighthouse Residences. He is a
graduate of B.S. Architecture from the University of Sto. Tomas, and also an alumnus of the Graduate School
of Design at Harvard University in Boston, where he took up Advance Management and Development Program
in Real Estate. He was awarded by PRC as Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Architecture in
2006, and Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Real Estate Service in 2022.
Architect Nestor Mangio took up B.S. Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas. He graduated in April
1970 and eventually passed the Board Licensure Exam in 1972. He designed the Paskuhan Village in
Pampanga that won an Excellence Award from the United Architects of the Philippines. He also designed the
Pampanga Convention Center and various commercial, industrial, religious, institutional and residential
buildings here and even abroad.
He has since been an active member of the United Architects of the Philippines where he held important
positions including the National President for two consecutive terms from 1994-1996. He was also a past
President of the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture Alumni Association.
He held various government positions in the past including Director of the Bases Conversion development
Authority (BCDA), Director of Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., Director of Clark Development Corp. and
Chairman of the Clark International Airport Corp. He is also affiliated with various international organizations
such as the American Institute of Architects, the Urban Land Institute, International Union of Architects and
Architects of Asia, among others.
Believing that “Life is a continuous learning process,” he enrolled at the Harvard University Graduate School of
Design specializing in Advance Management and Development Program in real estate. He was voted model
student of the class. His trophy project, The Lakeshore Estate in Mexico, Pampanga, a pioneer in lake resort
residential community with a 12-hectare man-made lake received numerous local and international awards,
including Best Design Community by the HLURB.
His Architectural firm, N. S. Mangio Architects & Associates expanded its services by obtaining license on
Environmental Planning (Urban Planning), Interior Design, Construction and Real Estate Services. The firm
also was able to tap corporate clients like Century Properties, Federal Land, San Miguel Properties, Dolmar,
Marubeni, SOC Land, Eton Properties Philippines Inc., etc. N. S. Mangio Architects & Associates won the
International Competition to design the Eton City in Sta. Rosa Laguna.
In 2006, he was named Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Architecture by the Professional
Regulation Commission. He was also awarded by the Business and Construction Interchange Asia as one of
the Top 10 Market Leaders in Asia in the field of Architecture. He was bestowed the title “Fellow” by the
United Architects of the Philippines, the Architects of Asia (ArcAsia) and APEC, ASEAN Architects. In 2020, he
was conferred UAP Likha Gold Medal Award, the highest honor given to a Filipino Architect.
On July 29, 2022 Arch. Mangio will be bestowed the Outstanding Professional of the Year Award in the field of
Real Estate Service from the Professional Regulation Commission.
Jose Siao-Ling, a distinguished Filipino architect, won the prestigious Likha Award from the United Architects of
the Philippines (UAP). The Likha Award is one of the highest honors given to Filipino architects, recognizing

He is also a respected figure for his involvement in shaping architectural practices in the country, as well as for
mentoring younger architects and pushing the boundaries of design in the Philippines.
