a. The diameter of washers produced by a machine has a standard deviation of 0.1 mm.
What should the mean diameter be if there is to be a probability of only 3% that the
diameter exceeds 2.0 mm.
b. Given that f(x) = P(1 – P)x – 1, x = 1, 2, 3, ……..
(i) Identify the PDF (ii) What does it random variables represent (iii) Give short explanation
and two example of its type of experiment with respect to it parameter.
c. The scores of students in an Examination are normally distributed with mean 55% and
standard deviation 10%. Find the probability that a given student scores
i. Less than 75%
ii. Between 60% and 70%
i. If 200 students sat for the examination and pass mark is 75%, find the number of the
successful students
