REFRENCE
MS EXCEL:

MS-EXCEL is a part of Microsoft Office suite software. It is an electronic spreadsheet

with numerous rows and columns, used for organizing data, graphically represent data(s),
and performing different calculations. It consists of 1048576 rows and 16383 columns, a
row and column together make a cell. Each cell has an address defined by column name
and row number example A1, D2, etc. this is also known as a cell reference.

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program used to record and analyze numerical and
statistical data. Microsoft Excel provides multiple features to perform various operations like
calculations, pivot tables, graph tools, macro programming, etc. It is compatible with
multiple OS like Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.

Excel is typically used for:

 Analysis
 Data entry
 Data management
 Accounting
 Budgeting
 Data analysis
 Visuals and graphs
 Programming
 Financial modeling
 And much, much more!

Why Use Excel?

 It is the most popular spreadsheet program in the world
 It is easy to learn and to get started.
 The skill ceiling is high, which means that you can do more advanced things as
you become better
 It can be used with both work and in everyday life, such as to create a family budget
 It has a huge community support
 It is continuously supported by Microsoft
 Templates and frameworks can be reused by yourself and others, lowering
creation costs
FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION OF HISTOGRAM

A frequency histogram is a graphical representation of the distribution of a data set. A

histogram is constructed from a series of bins, essentially intervals that cover the range of the
data. Each bin has a frequency, the count of data points within that interval. The bins are
plotted on the horizontal axis, while the frequencies are plotted on the vertical axis, resulting
in a bar chart-like representation. The height of each bar corresponds to the frequency of data
points in that bin.
What is the use of a frequency distribution and histogram ?

Frequency distribution and histograms are powerful tools for organizing and visualizing data.
A frequency distribution summarizes data by grouping values into intervals (or categories)
and showing the frequency of observations in each group. This provides a clear overview of
how the data is distributed, helping to identify patterns, trends, or anomalies. A histogram,
which is a graphical representation of a frequency distribution, uses adjacent bars to depict the
frequencies of these intervals. It is particularly useful for understanding the shape of the data
distribution, such as whether it is normal, skewed, or has outliers. Together, these tools
simplify complex datasets, making it easier to analyze and interpret data for informed
decision-making in fields like statistics, research, and business.

ADVANTAGES OF PIVOT TABLES:

Ease of Data Visualization

 Histograms in Excel make it easy to visualize the frequency distribution of a dataset. You
can quickly identify patterns, such as skewness, modality, or uniformity, which might not be
apparent in raw data.

Better Data Organization

 Frequency distributions summarize raw data into organized groups or bins, making large
datasets easier to interpret. Excel’s ability to create bins and count occurrences automates
this process.

Simplifies Statistical Analysis

 Using frequency distributions and histograms, Excel helps you understand key statistical
properties such as the range, central tendency (mean/median/mode), and dispersion
(variance/standard deviation).

Quick and Automated

 Excel automates the creation of frequency tables and histograms using built-in tools like
PivotTables, the Analysis ToolPak, or dynamic formulas, reducing manual effort and errors.

Customization Options

 Excel provides options to customize histograms (e.g., bin width, axis labels, colors),
allowing you to tailor visualizations to specific needs or audiences.
EXPLORE DATA USING PIVOT TABLES

STEP: 1 Click on start and select MS OFFICE.

STEP: 2 From the dropdown list select MS EXCEL

STEP:3 Then the MS EXCEL spreadsheet opens as follows.

So for Exploring data using HISTOGRAM, we need to have some data. So here
let us take an example of one year gross profits of a e-commerce company. The
attributes used in this example are as follows:
STEP: 4 Enter the data in the Excel spreadsheet.

STEP:5 Select the data range and click on the insert and then select
histogram.
STEP: 6 After selecting histogram , a dialogue box will appear as follows,
where the whole data range is selected.

Step: 7 To know the details about a particular product we need to double click
on a particular product then in a new worksheet the details will appear.
