The Treble Clef
In the 12th century,musicians used a staff of 4 lines, and notes of various
shapes: oblong, square, diamond -shaped, etc.

The time value of these notes depended on their size, but none had a
definite pitch (a definite sound). Notes did not have a definite pitch until
a symbol was placed at the beginning of the line, called a CLEF.
The G clef was originally the letter G, it was placed on the G line and
established the pitch of G. Other clefs were used for the lower notes. The
G clef is used for the highest notes, so it is called the G, or TREBLE
(which means highest) clef. It grew from
