CHAPTER 2

WORKING WITH IMAGES


- A document containing pictures is always easier to understand than a
pure text document.
- Our brain responds quickly to visual information more than other
form of information.
- A picture can be a drawing, chart, logo, graph or single video frame.
-In this chapter we will learn to insert, modify images in a document
to make it more effective and attractive.
- As computer understands only binary language, pictures are stored as
finite set of 0’s and 1’s value known as pixels.
- File extension of graphics or picture files are,
.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .bmp.
Inserting an image in a document:
-Liber Ofiice Writer provides different methods to insert an image into
the document. They are,
i) Insert Image Dialog
ii) Drag and Drop Method
iii) Cut , Copy and Paste
iv) By linking picture file
i) Inserting Image using Insert Image Option
Steps:
1) Place the cursor where you want to insert the image.

2) Click on Insert tab -- picture --- from file option from menu
bar.

3. A insert picture dialog box appears, select the picture file and click
open button.
4. Picture will be inserted.
ii) Inserting image using Drag and Drop Method
Steps:
1) Place the cursor where you want to insert the image.

2) Open file browser window ( Window+E) and select image to insert.


3. Drag and Drop the picture file to the document picture will be
inserted.

iii) Cut, Copy and Paste Method:


Steps:
1) Select the picture file press Ctrl + X to cut / Ctrl + C to copy picture
file.
2) Place the cursor where you want to paste and press Ctrl +V.

3) Picture will be inserted.


iv) Inserting picture by using Linking
Steps:
1) Open file browser window ( Window+E) and select image to insert.
2) Press Ctrl + Shift key and Drag and Drop the image file to the
document.
3) Picture will be inserted with a link.

Modifying Image / Picture:


-As per our requirement we can modify the size of inserted image in the
document.
-We can resize, crop, delete and rotate the image using image / picture toolbar.
Using Image /Picture Tool bar:
-When we select an image in a document the image /picture toolbar appears
automatically.
Or
- Click view tabtoolbar -picture option to get picture toolbar.

-Various tools available in picture toolbar are:


Description of image filter:
Crop an image:
Steps:
1. Select the image.
2. Select the crop tool from image toolbar.
3. Crop the desired portion from the picture.
Resizing an image:
- Sometimes we may require to resize the image to fit in our
document.
Steps:
1. Select the image and eight sizing handles will appear.
2. Place the mouse pointer over one of the sizing handles.
3. Click and drag to resize the image.
- Corner handles resize the image in all proportion while side sizing
handles will resize non-proportionally.
Deleting an image:
Steps:
1. Select the image and press delete key.
Drawing Objects:
- If we want to draw a flow chart then Liber Office Writer provides
drawing tools for it.
- The set of drawing tools available in Liber Office Writer helps in
creating good quality designs, drawings, diagrams.
- These diagrams can be placed on documents.
Steps to open Drawing tool bar:
1. Click view- Toolbar-Drawing
Steps to create a drawing:
1. Open the drawing toolbar.
2. Place the cursor in the document where you want to insert
drawing objects.
3. Select the drawing object, drag and drop in the document.
4. Object will be placed in the document.
5. We can resize the drawing object by dragging the resize buttons.

-To cancel the selected drawing object press ESC key or Select icon on
drawing tool bar.
Setting or Changing properties of Drawing objects
- Properties of drawing objects can be edited by using drawing object
properties toolbar.
- A list of options appears to modify.
Steps:
1. Click view-toolbar-Drawing object Properties
2. Select the drawing object.
3. Click on the icon of properties to modify.

Resizing and Grouping Drawing Objects:


- If a drawing consists of more than one shape, each shapes are
considered as individual entity.
-Any change in position of a single shape, may require change in
position of all shapes.
- In this case all shapes in the drawing may be grouped to treat them
as a single entity.
Steps to Grouping Drawing objects :

Steps:
1. Select all the shapes by pressing shift key and clicking over it.

2. Select a group tool from Drawing Object Properties toolbar.


Or
2. Select format tab - Group option-- Group.

3. All shapes will be grouped into a single entity.


- There are four options under Group option they are,
i) Group
ii) Ungroup
iii) Enter Group
iv) Exit Group

Positioning image in the Text:


Positioning of an image is controlled by four settings,
i) Arrangement :
-It determines a graphics vertical position relative to other graphic
objects.
-There are 6 tools for arrangement of drawing objects in Drawing
object Properties toolbar.

ii) Anchoring:
- A graphics may be associated with a page or a paragraph or
character.
-It acts as reference point for image or drawing.
-Click on format tab- anchor option - select any of the anchor
option
-Image can be anchored to page, paragraph, character or frame.
iii) Alignment:
-It decides the position of the graphic relative to the anchor.
- There are 4 alignments. They are,
i) Left ii) Right iv) Center and v) Justified

iv) Text Wrapping:


-It determines the position of the graphics with respect to the text.

-There are 5 wrap options. They are


i) No Wrap
ii) Page Wrap
iii) Optimal Page Wrap

iv)Wrap through

v) In Background:
