Q1. Write various keys present on a standard QWERTY keyboard.


Ans- Various keys present on a standard QWERTY keyboard are-
1.​ Alphanumeric keys
2.​ Punctuation keys
3.​ Special keys

Q2. What are Alphanumeric keys?


Ans- Alphanumeric keys include letters (A-Z), numbers (0-9), and symbols
(e.g., !, @, #) on the keyboard.

Q3. What are punctuation keys?


Ans- Punctuation keys refers to all the keys which have different
punctuation marks like comma, period, semicolon, brackets etc. They also
refer to all the mathematical operators like plus, minus, equal etc.

Q4.Define the use of various special keys present on the computer


keyboard.
Ans- 1. Spacebar key- The spacebar key is used to insert blank spaces
between words or characters, ensuring text readability and proper
formatting.
2. Enter Key- It is used to move to the cursor to the beginning of the next
line or to enter commands.
3. Caps Lock- It is used to write all the alphabetic characters in upper
case. It is also called the Toggle key.
4. Shift Key- It is also called The modifier key. The Shift key is used to:
i). Type uppercase letters when held along with a letter key.
ii). Access the secondary function of keys like @, #, or $ etc.
5. Ctrl key- It is used in conjunction with other keys to produce control
characters or to perform various shortcuts.

Q5. What is Touch Typing? What are the other names used for touch
typing?
Ans- Touch typing is a method of pressing keys for typing text without
looking at the keyboard. Touch typing is also known as ‘touch type’, ‘touch
method’ or ‘touch and type’.
Q6. Which keys are used to delete characters? How are they different
from each other?
Ans- The keys which are used to delete the characters are-
1.​ Delete Key: It removes the character just to the right of the cursor. It
also deletes the selected object.
2.​ Backspace Key: It removes the character just to the left of the
cursor.
Difference: The delete key works forward, while the backspace key works
backward.

Q7. What is the average typing speed and also write the typing speed
of professional typists.
Ans- Average typing speed is 41 words per minute (WPM) and professional
typists can exceed 100 WPM.

Q8. What is Home Row?


Ans- The row which starts from the beginning of Caps Lock key and
contains letters F, D, S, A (on left hand side) and J, K, L (on right hand
side) is called home row.

Q9. Write any 4 rules of touch typing.


Ans- 1. To press the spacebar key, use the thumb of whichever hand is
more convenient for you.
2. Use the right little finger to type the enter key.
3. Try to avoid looking at the keyboard.
4. Attempt to locate the right key with your fingers.

Q10. What are the major rules which a learner should keep in mind
while typing?
Or
What should be the proper posture of your body while typing?
Ans- 1. Always sit straight on the chair.
2. There should be at least cm of distance between your eyes and the
screen.
3. The optimum height of the table top or underdesk keyboard drawer is
68-73 cm from the floor.
4. The list can touch the table top in front of the keyboard.
5. Keep your elbows went at the right angle.

Q11. Write some tips which a learner should keep in mind while
learning touch typing.
Ans- 1. It keys only with the fingers for which they have been reserved.
2. Take your time when typing to avoid mistakes. The speed will pick up as
you progress.
3. Keep your hands and fingers close to the base position. It reduces stress
on the hands.
4. Do not hammer on the keys.

Q12. Define the following terms-


Ans-
1.​ Hover- Mouse hovering means moving the pointer over a specific
element on the screen. This action preview visual changes or
displays additional information such as tooltips.
2.​ Click- A click or single click means to press the left mouse button
once. It is used to select an item such as a link.
3.​ Double click- A double-click means that you must click the left
mouse button twice quickly. It is commonly used to open files, launch
programs, or select entire words in text.
4.​ Right click- Right-click means to click the right mouse button once. It
is used to open a context menu.
5.​ Drag and Drop- Drag and drop is an interaction where you press and
hold a mouse button (usually the left button) on an object, move
(drag) the cursor to a different location, and then release the button to
drop the object in the new location. This is commonly used to
rearrange items or move files.
6.​ Scroll- Scrolling involves moving the scroll wheel of mouse to view
the hidden area of the screen.

Q13. How can you increase your typing speed?


Ans- The best way to increase your typing speed is by good practice.
Q14. What is the advantage of touch typing?
Ans- Touch typing speed and accuracy of a typist as well as improves his
productivity, and where possible, reduces fatigue and injury to the eyes.

Q15. Explain the use of function keys.


Ans- Function Keys are labelled from F1-F12 and are used to perform
specific tasks depending on the software or operating system (e.g., F1 for
help).
