DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS
This is livestock enterprise which is kalush piggery farming , normally we sell live pigs,
piglets and also slaughtered as pork parcels. Our farming enterprise is located in St faiths
Kwa Zulu-natal. Marketing is very high as we farm highly demanded produce in a large
demographic place. Its 2 hectors, we have creep area, We have 16 sows and 2 boar. we use
jojo tank to store water.
At Kalush pig farm we two different type of pig breeds. We have south African landrace
and large white. We choose to use south African landrace because it has good mothering
ability and we choose large white because its large size that’s is good for meat production
also growth rate and reproduction is good.
We have housing where our pig live at , we separate sows and boars to avoid unnecessary
mating. Boar house is not slippery because we avoid injury and it has a large space for boar
to exercise . we sell our piglets when its 6 weeks after birth , we grow some piglets for
meat , bacon and sausage production . we slaughter pigs and cut them , packed and ready
to be sell. We supply some butchery like izwelethu butchery . The aim now is to supply
retailer , this could create more job opportunity because the number of pigs it will increase
.

• Vision; Our vision is to promote farming in St Faiths community and to create job
opportunities and also ensure food security in a country as a whole.

• Mission; Our mission is to become the biggest pork and maize supplier in the
province and our neighbour provinces. As we know that in rural areas farming is the
most important thing that can reduce poverty and unnecessary expenses.

Some of these workers like veterinary and manager will be selected according to their
qualifications and work experience just to have effective production.

The only effect that these competitors may have on our business is that they already have
customers
Our main strategy to stop our competitors is work hard and delivers the best and healthy
produce in the country.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Emalangeni has hectares of land available land I believe obtaining land won’t be a problem,
more especially this project will also benefit this community in terms of employment
opportunities.
The owners of the farm have practical experience of working on the farm and also educated
by the most productive college in the country.
In the community there are no project that are fit enough to be a tough competitor’s, there
is also a large market available for both of my products

WEAKNESSES
This is still new venture so people might have doubts in my products. The community might
develop a negative attitude toward the projects so good marketing of our produce will help
to overcome all our weaknesses.
OPPOTUNITIES
In Emalangeni area there are no commercial or any farming projects, members of
community travel long distances to buy farm product so we will grab the opportunity to
become their nearby farm store.
THREATS
Unforeseen circumstances like the swine flu and floods might attack our produce. Since the
country is face the water problem, drought might be a big crisis to our daily production
process and livelihood.
