3.F381A/F388A setting

- About the combination of the IP address and subnet mask

Unsettable combination:
When the IP address and subnet mask are expressed in binary, IP addresses in which
all the bits 0-specified to the subnet mask become 0 or 1 cannot be set.

Example) Unsettable combination

Decimal number Binary number
Subnet mask 255.255.000.000 11111111.11111111.00000000.00000000
IP address 192.168.000.000 11000000.10101000.00000000.00000000
192.168.255.255 11000000.10101000.11111111.11111111

Point
Combination in which the default gateway is forcedly unused (000.000.000.000)

When the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway are expressed in binary, if the bits
1-specified to the subnet mask do not correspond between the IP address and default
gateway, the IP address becomes effective and the default gateway is forcedly unused.

Example) Combination in which the default gateway is unused

Decimal number Binary number
Subnet mask 255.255.000.000 11111111.11111111.00000000.00000000
IP address 192.169.036.150 11000000.10101001.00100100.10010110
Default gateway 192.168.036.001 11000000.10101000.00100100.00000001

Gateway: Set the default gateway.

- Default gateway
192. 016. 036. 001
① ② ③ ④

①: 0 to 223 (127 cannot be set.)

②: 0 to 255
③: 0 to 255
④: 0 to 255
* If 0.0.0.0 is set, the default gateway is unused.
In such a case, "---.---.---.---" is displayed.

* If "0" is set to ①, values other than 0 cannot be set to ②, ③, and ④.

- Conditions under which the default gateway cannot be set

When the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway are expressed in binary, if the
bits 1-specified to the subnet mask do not correspond to the IP address, the specified
default gateway address cannot be set.
Also, default gateway addresses in which all the bits 0-specified to the subnet mask
become 0 or 1 cannot be set.

Point
Check that the same IP address as that of other equipment is not set.

Connect your PC to the network, and check that a response returns when a PING
command, such as a DOS prompt.

Header: Set the presence or absence of a header (STX).

Point

At power-on, it takes about 15 seconds for the communications of the Ethernet I/

F option to become ready. During that time, connection and changes of the
settings of the Ethernet I/F option cannot be made.

Input selection 1 to 2:

・What is a LAN?
For carrying out communications with multiple pieces of equipment, a group of a certain size is
normally formed for managing and geographical reasons.
This group is called a LAN (Local Area Network).

・How to form a LAN

The same network address needs to be set in one LAN.
When the IP address is expressed in binary, the IP address of the part 1-specified to the subnet mask
is the network address.

・What is a connection?
Virtual circuit(s) provided between the pieces of equipment to carry out communications is called
connection.

・What is the establishment of a connection?

A state in which communications can be carried out between the pieces of communicating
equipment by providing virtual circuit(s) for communications is called the establishment of a
connection.
Taking a telephone as an example, it refers to: picking up the telephone receiver, inputting the
telephone number of the other end, and the other end answering the telephone.
The F381A/F388A does not send a reply to commands (set value read/write, waveform read/write,
etc.) until connection with the F381A/F388A is established.

11
7.Cautions in creating client software

・What is a host?
The equipment that is capable of transmission and reception in communication by using a protocol
is called a host.

・What is a client?
The host that tries connecting to establish a connection is called a client.

・What is a server?
The host waiting for a connection in establishing a connection is called a server.
The F381A/F388A is a server, and after power-on, it is brought to a state in which it waits for
connection from the client side.

・What is PING?
It is a client side program to diagnose the network status.
You can check the communication status according to the replay made by sending packet data that
requests a replay to the equipment the network status of which you want to check.
* For the method of operation, check with your network administrator for the use environment.

・What is "keep-alive"?
Communications are carried out periodically to check that the connection is valid.
Under circumstances where communications are not carried out for a long time, it is not clear
whether communications are not carried out intentionally or communications cannot be carried out
due to some problem.
Therefore, even under such circumstances where communications are not carried out for a long
time, whether or not the connection is valid is checked by sending a packet informing that the
connection is continuing to the other end and checking the arrival of the packet at the other end.
If the connection is invalid, it is cut off by a predetermined number of times.

7. Cautions in creating client software

- Protocol TCP/IP

- Port number Set 50381 to the port number.

- Keep alive The F381A/F388A sends a packet at intervals of 30 seconds, and checks three
times.

-Checking of communications carried out with an intended F381A/F388A

For use of two or more F381A/F388As, set the equipment ID avoiding
overlap to identify them.
After power-on and the establishment of a connection with the F381A/F388A,
read the equipment ID and check the consistency between the IP address and
equipment ID.
