To create a 2k factorial design in Minitab by defining factors, levels, and the design matrix.
To analyze main and interaction effects using ANOVA and graphical tools.
To interpret results, identify significant factors, and optimize the response.
Introduction:
A 2k factorial design is an effective statistical method for examining the effects of multiple factors and their
interactions on a response variable. It involves testing all possible combinations of factors at two levels, commonly
labeled as "low" and "high." This approach enables researchers to identify key influences and optimize systems or
processes efficiently.Minitab offers a user-friendly platform for generating, analyzing, and interpreting 2k factorial
designs, making it a vital tool for enhancing decision-making and performance across various fields.
Problem:
Problem 6.11 An experiment was performed to improve the yield
of a chemical process. Four factors were selected, and two
replicates of a completely randomized experiment were run.
The results are shown in the following table:

Assumption(Graph):
Procedure:
1. Open the Minitab Software and go to Stat and Click on factorial and click on Create Factorial
Design as shown below:
2.
3. Select 2-level Factorial (default Generator) and select number of factor as four and In Design
option select Full Factorial with 2 as number of replications as shown below:
3
Figure 2 setting up the design.
4. Then a design will be made and then enter the data as shown below:
5. Click on Stat then DOE then Factorial and click on Analyze Factorial design as shown below:
4
Figure 4 Selecting test.
6. Then select Replication Values as Response factor and in graphs select Half Normal graph and in
option select Four in one and in result select expanded tables as shown below :
Figure 6 Result.

Result & Discussion:
The factorial regression showed no significant effects (p > 0.05) and low explanatory power (R² = 29.16%, adjusted
R² = 0.00%). Residuals meet assumptions, but the model doesn’t explain replication variability.

Conclusion:
The 2k factorial design analysis in Minitab indicates that factors A, B, C, D, and their interactions do not
significantly impact the chemical process yield. The model has a low R-squared, showing limited
explanation of data variation. While residuals meet normality and independence assumptions, the
experiment yielded no significant results. This implies that additional testing with alternative factors or
conditions might be necessary to identify key influences on the process.
