The document explains that unexpected 'DENIED' messages in the license server log occur when multiple license pools exist, and all licenses in the first pool are in use while a license from the second pool is checked out. An example is provided with two sets of licenses in one pool, illustrating how the log reflects license checkouts. This highlights the importance of understanding license pool management to avoid confusion in log entries.

Unexpected entries in the license server log file

You will see some unexpected “DENIED” messages in the license log file when:
• There are two (or more) pools of licenses
• All the licenses within the first pool are taken
• A license from the second pool is used
Example 1 – One license pool
A license contains two sets of licenses with the same version (even with different
expiry dates):
# POOL 1
INCREMENT wgpcb mgcld 2010.040 8-may-2010 1 8D1C475D86D54FE85A8A \
# POOL 1 continued
INCREMENT wgpcb mgcld 2010.040 9-may-2010 1 5DEC574DA58160565D75 \
When checking these licenses out, the log file contains:
OUT: "wgpcb" davidle@client1
OUT: "wgpcb" davidle@client2
